I hope Spurs do break their wage structure to keep their players. They've got a few decent Englishmen and to keep them together can only be good for the national team.

I don't think they'll keep Alli but players like Kane, Rose, Dier and Walker aren't good enough to attract the attention of the best of the best but will still need to be paid handsomely to stop them going up to Manchester.

Good to see sides building their way up to (nearly) the top of the English pyramid without spending a **** load. We showed that it can be done, we also showed that you need to pay through the nose AND add to it in order to stay there.

I'm sceptical that Spurs can do it though because to be a long term success in football you need thorough investment and players with a great mentality. Two things that Spurs need to address this summer.

I understand what your saying but when it comes to being fiscally responsible I will always have a chip on my shoulder toward haves and the Havants . It's easy for clubs to say net spending isn't important when they spend at least a net transfer cost of at least 50 million a season . But clubs like Leicester , Swansea , Spurs and especially Southampton receive oodles more respect from me for their fiscal restrictions than Arsenal , Chelsea , Liverpool , Chelsea , and both Manchester teams ever will . I always snicker at " Big " club fans having a go at lesser clubs when lesser clubs have success like Leicester last season and the first words out of the " Big " club fans mouths are " Ya , well lets see you hang on to your players " because the " Big " club's fans know their clubs sit on a pile of money and think they are super accomplished saying it . Like I've said in the past , when a " Goliath " club wins fame it's a dime a dozen event but when a " David " club wins people sit up and take notice of the achievement more in it's remarkability .

I agree doing it on a net transfer is great.

I slightly disagree that clubs are being fiscally irresponsible. You could maybe throw that accusation at Chelsea and City but for the rest of the clubs you do not know how much they have earnt through merchandising, gate receipts and prize money on top of what they have saved up from years before (like Arsenals famous nest egg). If they have the money earnt to spend how is that financially irresponsible?

Not sure you will hear many fans going on about lesser clubs and being bitter of their success like Leicester (In fact if you scour the PL boards its the likes of the spurs fans that are crowing about this).

Agreed about the David scenario, people love David to win. So if David wins again (spurs relative to the rest of the top 6) then sure lets applaud and say its a more fantastic achievement but as of now yes they've done better than the rest but at the end of the day they haven't won anything so even though they have had a more successful season than most, they haven't actually achieved anything as of yet.

Eh, how do you work that out?

We were mid-table at best pre-ENIC with no real indication of ever pushing on beyond that.

Fast forward to 2017 and we're competing with the top teams in the league in which rival fans now laugh at us for missing out on the title rather than laugh at us for being plain ****. We have a newly built top of the range training facility along with a 61,000 seater stadium a year away from completion. Granted we'll be the first to admit that we haven't won enough trophies but the progress we've made under ENIC has been brilliant and the future looks even better.

Not if you don't break your unrealistic pay structure. Spurs have trouble attracting world class players and dismal embarrassing sorties in Europe every decade won't help. Levy and fat Joe have to invest heavily to take you to the next level because if you don't you can't expect the likes of Arsenal, City & United to be bad for three seasons running.

  6. Oh, I don't know, Skids.

Arsenal did it for 21 years, and they had a pretty decent run.

But at least they got to a final in that time which means pro rata you will need another 200 Years to be the failure they've been.

We already have broken the pay structure with Lloris and Kane. Alderweireld looks likely to follow them. With increased revenue from Wembley and then the new stadium, the pay structure will increase accordingly.
Most sides have trouble attracting world class players, it's only the big money sides that can usually sign them. We're pretty fortunate though in that we have players that'd get into 90% of sides around Europe.
We're hardly miles off the next level, we've challenged for the title for the past two seasons. All we need is a bit of strengthening to the squad in attacking areas. Our first XI is a match for anyone but we don't have adequate cover for Kane while the likes of Alli, Eriksen and Dembele could do with players competing and helping to take the onus off them. If we add a few good squad additions then we'll be challenging again next season, regardless of what Utd and co do in the summer.

I think your 90% claim is colour blindness on your part but I would say four players definitely.

You clearly didn't read it properly "players that'd get into 90% of sides around Europe."

I know what he said but only Loris, Kane, Alli, Toby & Ericsson fall into that category the rest wouldn't make the top four clubs 1st teams in my view.

You'd like to think that every Premier League player would get into 90% of sides around Europe, but that's me being a pedant.

That's not what he said. He said that all Spurs players would get into 90% of European sides. The other 10% represent the Barcas, Bayerns and Reals of this world so clearly not all Spurs Players would get into those sides.

Spurs fans were slagging off Eriksen and Alli in November and December saying they weren't good enough.

Toby bottles big games like semis.

Rose would get into the Chelsea side and Walker. Maybe Toby. Possibly Kane.

    Others no....

But Chelsea are not in the bottom 90% of European sides. They're in the top 10%.

How on earth is that a snide remark? It's a clarification. Or do you not think that Chelsea are in the Top 10% of European sides?

I love the way you completely dismiss the greatest midfielder of his generation, and voted the best young player in the division, by his peers.

If Levy offered Alli to Abramovic, Conte would have to stop spunking in his pants before he was able to pick up the phone and talk!

You know it. I know it. And you know that I know that you know it. So, please, let's cut the crap.
