He's from Paisley, about 15 miles from where I live - his parents still run an old.fashioned fish&chip shop/restaurant round the corner from my friends house, and my son loves going there for his tea....it's fascinating looking at all his gold disks up on the wall. Have seen him a few times at various T in the Parks (I don't go to that festival anymore, but when I moved up here I went ten years running).
I'm going to get the cover out tonight and check. I was near the centre of the venue, left side and was unmistakable. 6'5" with a 4" quiff. That actually sounds quite embarrassing - was just below the O in stomping.
Saw them at the SECC in Glasgow when they were living on the success of Chelsea Dagger - far too big a venue for them, and it showed.....
She headlined the following year, 2001, the only year that I didn't camp at the festival. Seen her again a couple of years ago, not really my thing, but the missus loved it. Sharleen is aging well though, turns 50 this year, and is still looking ok.....headling 3 nights at Kelvingrove in the summer, plus Albert Hal down your way.....
I'd been wanting to see them for a few years, and they finally played at my last T in the Park in 2013 - the sun was shining and they were brilliant and looked like they enjoyed it as much as the crowd.
Several times pal, last time at Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow - they put on a great show (and everyone knows every word of their songs so it's a right laugh with a few beers down your neck!!)
Many times - when they toured Screamadelica we saw them 4 times in a year! Twice in Glasgow, once at TitP, and one small intimate gig at Dunoon Town Hall - crazy rush at the end as everyone rushed to get the last ferry home, which ended up as a mad sing-a-long boat ride!! You'll get there Grove.....50-50 chance now.....
