    Exactly, mate.

He's worked wonders with the relatively little resources he's had.

We're not The chavs or Citeh, with their sugar daddy owners. Our club has to be run more as a business, not some billionaires toy or hobby.

I'm sure the club is aware that to keep our top players we need to pay commensurate wages.

Me bad , I forgot to add Spurs net transfer this season so they have a net spend the past 6 years of 9 million . Arsenal have a net spend of 222 million during the same period . And the only important trophy's for " Big " clubs are League Titles and European Cups ..... well , unless you haven't won neither apparently ..lol

Mr Roof, as well as Spurs have done on their 9 million net spend, what you are effectively saying is that a team like Southampton are even better than Spurs, they have a far lesser net spend and finish top half of the table as consistently as Spurs!

Mr D , I love how Southampton are run as a club , but for fact sakes . Southampton have averaged over 8th place compared to Spurs just over 4th place the past 6 seasons

    I doubt we've averaged 8th over 6 seasons... we've only been in the PL 5 <laugh>

Where I revel in Southampton' s achievements is their wage bill . Southampton are an awesome run team

Average of 4.6, but for claritys sake, they've ONLY made the champions league twice including this season.

Even Brenton Rodgers managed to qualify for the CL. Wenger was doing it with negative net spends in the 2005 era.

Poch has done well no doubt, but at the moment it is nothing to shout about yet until they start picking up some medals. Even Laudrup is more highly regarded than Monk even though Monk had your highest ever finish

A man like Roofus understands the finer points of football and is just appreciating them.

    Nothing wrong with that.

    The difference is obvious.

As I said earlier, like the majority of PL clubs, Spurs is run as a business. Chelsea, City, are run as what they are - very rich men's toys.

That's lovely ...but I'm happy to stick with a title win ...the Net Spend Cup has as much substance as anal fungus in the East Midlands :)

    Good Morning Vietnam! :)

As discussed earlier on this thread, if Spurs want to actually win trophies, compete with the big clubs and hang on to their best players, then they are going to have to pay the going rate. Net spend wins you nothing.

    ^^^ This
Exactly why Spuds will never win the Premiership why they have a board intent on mugging the fans off and putting profit a priority. Anonymous signings and poor wage structure will win you nothing and this has been evident for them since Alan Sugar cashed out. Seems Levy is not prepared to take the club to the next level but happy to rake in the profits.

    RIP Spurs <rose>

Spurs need to build a legacy abroad.
    Thats the issue.
They dont have the history of an Arsenal or a Man united.
Or any recent success like Chelsea and Man City on which to build.....not yet anyway.
Their new stadium should help financially, but lord knows what position the squad will be in by then.
Have seen so many false dawns at Spurs......

Spurs are at a tipping point now. They've had 2 brilliant seasons, got the most points over 2 years and still won the grand sum of **** all.

They are now about to go into Wembley, a stadium they have a poor record at, and next year the pressure on them to win something will be bigger than ever.

They won't be able to get away with paying modest wages for much longer when City will pay twice, three times for the likes of Alli, their full backs etc.

So they will either have to complete change their wage structure or risk again losing their best players. Spurs can't yet attract really top players either.

This time next year, they could well be back out of the top 4 and preparing for their best players leaving.
