Watching it? Please, feel free to make massively sweeping judgements about the game just by reading the Daily Echo and not seeing any of the match. Seems to be the done thing!
Well worth watching. We didn't get a shot on target, but plenty of positives about individual performances again. Our organisation & the big man pulling off a few saves, well worth a look.
That was a great bit of play....dink from Tadic to an unmarked Long in front of goal....just overshot by a metre.* *hey, look at me. Gone all metric.
And the guys on MOTD think fans are being rough on Puel...they thought he was doing a good job. Of course, they will care less about entertainment than some who watch every week, but their rational view was....do we want to keep changing managers?
Was it?! The first half I don't think we had a shot on target! (Edit - we didn't have one the entire game!!) Also my issue isn't that we are involved in dull games, it is that we have been very dull in the way we play. I couldn't care less how entertaining the entire spectacle was if it was solely because of the other side. We failed to register a shot on target for the entire game. Our passing was extremely sloppy, especially when trying to break from that back, which essential meant we couldn't score as a counter attack was our only real hope. But as I said in an earlier post - that has been typical of us this year. Decent result, impressive defensively but so dull.
On a lighter note, will someone explain to me how you can get a bit tense watching a highlights reel knowing the final score is 0-0. One of life's mystery. Glad Forster has kept that penalty out 5 times now.
Just watched the highlights and have to say Liverpool got that penalty for one reason and one reason only - the screaming of Can and Coutinho plus their running towards the ref and surrounding him. There's no way the ref could see that. Now I hate seeing players yelling at the ref and waving imaginary cards and basically stopping play just to try and get a foul or penalty, but sadly it seems that's the way we will have to go to get decisions.
I'm disappointed in you Fran. A yard was good enough for Julius Caesar's army, and it should be good enough for us now.
In the highlights, I enjoyed the fact that Forster was backing off from Milner because the ref was there, but moved in for a second niggle when James diverted the ref's attention by having a tactical drink. P.s. respect to Milner. He took responsibility and didn't moan about Fraser....just said he was a good keeper.
A lot of our fans this season have become spoiled brats. Thankfully they all stay on Twitter and Saintsweb and rarely ever appear here.
I'd have said the opposite personally. Typically this year we have been playing entertaining possession based football with a good number of chances but just not getting the results this season. It helps that I enjoy possession based football. Recently, since Gabbiadini got injured, we haven't been playing to what I would call Puel's style and I think performances have suffered because of it. I don't think puel's counter attack is entertaining. It was the same when he played 4 3 3 back in the dark winter games. Basically what I'm saying is I think people would be calling this season entertaining if we converted more of our chances
It's funny seeing some comments about how Saints didn't play to win, it's not like Liverpool passing sideways aimlessly 35 yards from goal did much to try to win. They had what, one chance (header) on top of the penalty..? If I was a Liverpool fan I'd be pissed off with the team's dreadful lack of innovation and creativity, and also Klopp's charisma (overreactions) on the sideline when he didn't influence the game at all with his tactics from the beginning or subs.
Absolutely. Would we be hearing all this stuff about not being entertaining, if we were top 6 and had progressed in the Europa League? I really doubt it. How many Chelsea fans moaned about not being entertained when they ground their way to the CL trophy in 2012?
The Echo site is by far the worst at the moment, no moderation, serial nutjobs and time wasters, no action by the Echo when posts are reported, they keep the rubbish posters because they are providing click bait.
In fairness I think that is normal. I am the first to admit that as long as we get results I am not one to complain about how we get them. So if we really performed this season and got top 6 I would not have complained about our style of play. However, we haven't got top 6. Instead we are battling it out for a mid-table finish and didn't get out our group in Europe. But with injuries and a cup final I'd say overall it has been a decent year but nothing special. It's just a shame that we have, in my opinion, been very boring to watch on many occasions and failed to get results this season.
Just saw the reactions to the game on the Facebook page. **** me I really really dislike a lot of our fans. Saw one comment that said "Summer clearout needed. Pay off Puel, give away Boufal if we can (worst player to ever wear the shirt). We've gone backwards. Yeah we had a cup final but still.." It's comments like that make me thankful that we don't have some football manager kid running the team and actually a group of people who have shown that they mostly know what they're doing.
Dermot says Stephens penalty was right, but having just seen a glimpse of the replay I get the impression a Liverpool boot made contact with Jacks arm? The shadow on screen makes it difficult to see whether there was contact but it explain what looks like an unnatural movement.
