Today I think he just wanted to frustrate Liverpool. If we had a break / created a chance, then this was probably seen as a bonus. It was safety first. Wirth regard to the coaching, I think that the issue is largely due to Claude Puel not being able to communicate his ideas to the players. I don't think that they can understand what he is trying to do. I am not convinced by all the "lost the dressing room" nonsense and bust ups on the training ground. This has been blown out of proportion. Puel knows what he wants but I just think he is unable to get his ideas across and make them understood. He is no more compelling a speaker in French than in English.
For me it's note hate at all. I used to.look forward to his posts in previous seasons as I found them in sightful. But today I just cannot understand hoe can call s point away to Liverpool ad a bad result. maybe it was dull, I have driven 200 miles to OT, benn one minute late getting into the ground and missed the first goal we conceded. It may not be boring, but seemed like it to be when Nistelroy completed his hatrick and we had let in seven. I kind of prefer Puel's mote cautious approach for the "time being" as we consolidate through change
Ian. I agree with certain points you make.but i only ever seem to see your post when things are not going great on the pitch. Yes the football has been very boring in parts.but there has also been some very good football by us. We also had a final that we should have won.something that mopo and ronald failed to get us. All things considered i dont think its been that bad a season tbh.puel deserves another season.judge him after that
Agreed about the bust ups. You can't fault the endeavor of the players today. That was a hard working performance. Today I think Tadic was pretty lousy on the ball. As our link man we really needed him to make himself available and hold the ball up and keep possession, but he was pretty wasteful
And if he had, here's the post you'd have made. "Le Frog's tactical naivety was highlighted by his stupid French decision to go to Anfield and lose by playing a high line and trying to score against a team whose attack contained Coutinho. Predictably, Coutinho once again was given room to bang in a 25 yard screamer. While you Puel apologists might try to put the blame for that at the feet of the players, it was all the Frenchman's fault for setting them up to attack and leaving space at the back. Common sense suggested to play for a point but our Gallic imbecile left us open to that strike. He has to go." Vin
Didn't see the match so can't really comment on how boring it was. I can imagine. Yes we are much better than in the 90's, I remember the Branfoot days well. And Chris Nicholls. But we are also in a much healthier financial position and have invested heavily in players, compared to star signings such as speedie, Dixon, shipperly, Watson. We are also aiming to be a damn sight better than those miserable days. I wouldn't say this season has been a success, europa was a low point. Going from 6th place to securing safety in early may is a step back. The lack of goals is a concern, tadic, Redmond, gabbiadini, long and boufal: are we suggesting puel is getting the most out of them?! If Cortese was here he probably would have gone by now, definitely in the summer. I'm not sure now, personally I'm indifferent.
How many supporters views have you canvassed to arrive at that conclusion? Granted, many of our fans have spent most of the season moaning and even booing, but don't assume that they represent everyone's opinion. I have a lot of faith in Puel, certainly more faith in his football knowledge than I have in that of many of our fans, and look I forward to him being given the opportunity to prove a few people wrong.
There may be some truth in this. Which is why I still say, give him - and the players - time to get them playing his way.
I must say, I love short term planning! It takes time to mould a team, but us fans want results yester,........,..,.. .
I have occasionally said that I would happily suffer a season of 1-0s to win the PL, and I stand by that. It is actually more important to get results than to entertain. This is a sport, not a variety show.
Highlights made it looked better than it was, Fraser was spot on every time, not playing pat a cake but actually holding the ball from all of the attempts. Some A1 defending from Maya and Stephens. The GK handball which didn't happen actually did, the comments Carra "That was outside"/ "it was his shoulder", reply "below the sleeve line". Make of that what you will, as I said earlier it wasn't given, the stats will say it didn't happen, time to move on. A good point efficiently won by us, two points lost by Liverpool. Not a game for the purists, watching it live had me squirming at times, but in the end I was worrying unnecessarily.
