Hello, Southampton fan in peace. I always look out for Arsenal's results and hope the best for them as they are by far my favourite Prem team. So anyway, I wanted to get the opinion of some Arsenal fans- should Arsne go if you don't win anything this season? Do you want him to? Do you think he will? and what do you think are the minimum season expectations for the season?

BTW, thanks for the £15 Million for Chamberlain... <whistle>

    Welcome to the Arsenal Forum.

I think the pressure on Arsene is very great. It has shown over the weekend, beginning with the press conference on Friday.

If Arsenal make it to the Top 3 or 4 of the EPL and the finals of a couple of cups for instance the CL then I think he will survive. However if we do not show well in any competition then I think he may be forced out by the weight of public opinion. That would be a sad way to end what has been a golden age for Arsenal. It would not be the way for the fans to treat a manager who has done so well for the club. However, the blind adherence to this youth policy of his, the taking of one risk too many in looking to save on transfers and looking to get by with either a ' budget ' player or none at all is simply self-defeating. Eventually it can only damage his own reputation and that to me would be sad. No I don't want him to go but the answer or a lot of it lies with him.

Also, if he were to go, who would you like to replace him?

  4. Well Pep G but I doubt if he would come. He would certainly bring in a lot of trophies I think. Then there's Guus Hiddink who did an excellent job for Chelsea in only the space of a few months. Carlo Ancelotti has been mentioned by other members and I think he could do a good job too. Eventually I personally would like to see Dennis Bergkamp. <ok>

    How about you?

PS - Definitely not the special one or ' arry, Pardew, Fat Sam or Pulis.

We may be lacking in trophies etc now, but think how good things will be once the stadium is fully paid off, we'll be able to easily spend 30+ million a season without it breaking the bank, we'll have jack wilshere. ramsey, szcnezny etc etc older, more experienced etc

    all because of Arsene Wenger!

I think most good managers could do the job, and you have the list of most of the usual big name andidates that come up with any big job. Just stay away from Adkins- he's ours! :p

  7. No probs

We're still sticking with Arsene. I hope it doesn't come to it though that the fans force him to leave

If we have a season like last one, or the one before that or the one before that then I think he should leave. However if we win something, anything then I will want him to stay as I feel that it will give us a confidence boost to finally get the monkey of our back. And most importantly it will stop commentators going on about 'X years without a trophy' every time we have a game!

It could take another 13 years to pay off the stadium debt, i doubt Arsenal fans will want to wait that long for another trophy either way Wenger will be gone long before then so why not sooner than later and get some one who is abetter tactician in.

Pep will only be at Barca for another 2 years.

It's the nature of the big Spanish Clubs they do NOT keep managers for long. (regardless of talent)

He would be the ideal guy to replace Wenger. Im sure the big money Premierleague would appeal to him also.

  11. Hadn't realised the Spanish clubs do things that differently. Why fix something that isn't broken?

It would be nice to win some big trophies with Arsene before he decides to call it a day. I'm sure Pep would appeal to Mr Abramovich and that Sheik too. If he wants a club with quality and history then he should want to come to us <ok>

Every Arsenal fan has a different opinion on this, personally it would have to take an absolutely horrific season for me to want him to go. Even if we dropped out of the top 4 i'd still want him to stay. I think if we had any other manager over the last few seasons with the limited transfer funds then we would have definately dropped out of the top 4.

I also think players like RVP would be out the door if Wenger left, which would be disastrous.

Wenger just needs a big hug I reckon. And he needs inspiration. He's got the managerial equivalent of writer's block.

In this case I think its Pep who doesn't want to stay too long and the club who want to keep him tied down.

Now that you're about to lose your 2 best players, I can certainly see another trophyless seasons (sadly) for you guys.

I still think you'll get top 4- People seem to think Liverpool spending big warrants them 4th place- when in fact they've overspent on average players in my opinion.

I'm not too sure what the owners at Arsenal want from the football club, they seem pretty contempt with missing out on trophies and titles as long as it means the club isn't falling into debt doing so. Which makes me feel Arsene will still be in the same position this time next year even though you'll have another disappointing season once again.
