. I think everyone in the stadium was focussed on whether Tadic was going to get to the ball and whether Tadic was going to have to foul Mignolet even if he got there first. So focussed that no-one, not even Dusan, appealed. Vin
Milner did what he needed to do. Forster guessed right and still had to make a good save to get to that ball. Could it have been more in the corner? Sure. But you don't want to aim for the perfect PK, because then you might miss. That kick still scores 9 times out of 10. As for the overall game, I thought Klopp got his tactics a bit wrong to start with. He should have made his second half subs earlier, and had a better solution. I think he might have been thrown off by Liverpool starting that second half fairly well, and then re-thunk things. But mostly Puel had a good strategy, and Saints were organized and executed it well. It's not like Liverpool was just giving the ball away with sloppy passes or not running. We didn't allow them to do anything. I was impressed by Boufal today. He ended up not doing anything spectacular, but in the first half he was able to beat the first defender several times. He didn't have anyone to pass to, but obviously the Gegenpress relies upon winning the ball back immediately. So just by beating one player, he pulled Liverpool out of shape, and forced them to pull back a bit. Which negated the press.
I've stopped playing any kind of football game [Pro-Evo was my favourite] as I kept running out of controllers Such a mild person normally too.
Can I just point out that Fraser's brilliant penalty save was an almost exact mirror image of Dusan's pathetic penalty kick last week? Vin
I won't lie I've broken one or two over the last 10 years. Sadly one was purely accidental (I didn't see it and stepped on it). Thankfully I'm quite good at FIFA now so rarely lose and having a PS4, with the controllers so bloody expensive, has mellowed me.
That was a good save as well. Not much wrong with Dusan's penalty, but he will always be compared with Tiss and Rickie. Few people come out well under those circumstances.
Yes, I'm of the same opinion. First I found him engaging and entertaining. Now I find him profoundly annoying. His touchline leaping about even if one of his players sneezes just makes me want to vomit. Conte does very similar stuff but it feels far more genuine to me, and he only does it proportional to the activity on the pitch.
Every time they fouled us and the ref had the nerve to give us a free-kick he was mental and giving 4th Official & Assistant grief Would have been sent off if he was Jose says Mrs S
Yep. We were all simply looking at the wrong thing. Or maybe not the wrong thing, just the thing that ended up not being important. I'm not trying to be harsh on the linesman. I'm simply pointing out that it was a missed call, rather than that it wasn't a handball or couldn't possibly seen in real-time. It was a pretty easy call, if you were paying attention. In a perfect world, the linesman should have been aware of the possibility and seen it. But things happen fast, and it's hard to be 100% concentrating on all the multiple things you have to be doing at once. He got distracted, as we all did.
I'm hoping that he'll point out that Puel tactically outthought the much lauded Klopp today. Again. For the fourth time this season.
I've got a fresh new opinion out of my box of opinions As a team we aren't good enough to play Puel's tactics properly We are supposed to soak up pressure and then hit them on the break but we aren't good enough at the transition when pushed by a motivated and strong team like that Summer signings will be to address that Not pointing the finger at anyone specifically but 3 Oriels would change things a bit, especially if one had the shooting gene
If you keep to 0-0, there is always a chance to win (and to lose, but shut up...I'm making a point here ). Against dangerous sides, we have no other choice but to try to hold out....we don't have those exciting players that can win 3-1 or 3-2 anymore. We're a couple of the right players from being a good side again. I still think we are top of the rest....and should have been vying for 6th again. Top ten (probably) and a cup final isn't bad after an acknowledged weak season.
If we can ship out some more of our detritus to them maybe we can start converting a few more wins against them too.
