After reinforcing his defence by signing Jonathan Woodgate and Matthew Upson, Stoke manager Tony Pulis switched his bold recruitment drive to the Tottenham pair. Last seasonâs FA Cup finalists were prepared to pay close to £20million for the duo but were struggling to reach a compromise with Tottenham after a day of hard bargaining. Tottenham have quoted other interested parties around £12m for Crouch and £14m for Palacios, and it is believed they are holding out for £25m for the pair. Stoke are in no mood to go above £20m, particularly as Crouch earns £70,000 a week and Palacios £60,000. England striker Crouch is thought to be cool on the switch and could take some persuading. Nicklas Bendtner may prove a more viable option for Pulis, after the Arsenal target man accepted he will have to leave the Emirates to kick-start his career and privately admitted an interest in leading Stokeâs attack. Arsenal value him at £11m.

You think so? I wouldn't be surprised if we tried for both or for that Kabore we've been linked with. One player I wish we'd go back in for is Rodallega. He would provide good competition for up front and the wings as well
The game today showed exactly why most of us are agreed about our weak midfield. And, Ether's going for an xray doesn't sound good to me. I was sick of seeing Whelan and Delap do well to win the ball, only to give it straight back to a Chelsea player. I said it before today's game and IF ONLY we had a couple of player's with good vision/ball control we could maybe have gained more than a pt... Still, happy enough with a pt today. Oh, and another winger Matty might have done a lot of damage then what Tony?
Bit harsh on Glenn and Rory Potts. Thought they both played very well today and Rory's passing was a lot better and I thought Glenn was passing as good as he was in the last few months of last season.
I have always been a Whelan fan (even though I have been shot down alot) and think with another decent midfielder he woudl be OK! However although Delap played well today he was fuked after 40 mins and once his legs go he becomes more loose with his play! When Matty went off, I couldn't believe TP pushed the slowest rightsided player we have onto the left, but I think it just shows how week our midfield squad is in general! Like I said on another post, I'm trying not to come across as negative and feed certain posters on here, but we have not moved our central midfield on since Deano arrived and we are now into the 5th transfer window! I think this is why some fans (of which I have been quite vocal) feel that as good (or not) as the signings to date are they have not addressed the main core issues of weakness within the team. More worringly is (for which I have been slated for) TP has again showed that he will not play players intheir natural position and Woodgate confirmed today that he is not a backup player, he is going to play when fit! That means that Huth goes to RB which has taken our core partnership apart and Wilson (probably our most competent midfielder) is wasted at left back! Again I'm not being negative as I think they and all the lads played very well today and TP used what he had and got the result - but it ain't going to cut for 37 more games! So roll on a couple of quality signings! Oh and I hope to GOD I'm wrong, but I feel that when we sign 1 or 2 great midfielders Delap will still play 90 mins rather than be a back up or impact sub on 70 minutes when the game has slowed down to his pace and his throw ins will have more impact!
Sarge I don't think Potts was being Harsh mate but purely pointing out that when we win the ball we have no options on and the ball ends up going back to the opposition for them to once more come on to us again. Jones cannot hold the ball up to save his life and we need some players to take the heat off our over worked defence!
Waddo Thanks, I should have said that.. to be fair neither Whelan nor Delap had much in front of them i.e. Jones too deep as was Ether's before going off. Once he did have to leave the field.. we were well and turly shafted going forward anyway. Hence, that is why I'm crying out for someone,somewhere to hold on to the bloody ball and not just panick. which is what both Delap and Whelan did at times today. This may sound harsh but like Smither's said. Rory was fooked after an hour and no way is he going to last for 90 mins every weekend. I've always said, IF we get another two good midfeld player's along with either Whelan and or Whitehead we will be fine.

I`ll believe it when I see them with our shirts on their backs.It`sbeen going on far too long now.Anyway Palacios would probably fail the medical and Crouch doesn`t want to leave.Hope I`m wrong, I`d love to have both of them,but as has been said previously what about our wage structure hows that problem going to be overcome?
I reckon we will sign both of them within the next few days. I'm really not convinced Crouch will be worth the money. He is 31 and only scored 5 goals last season. People complain about KJ being lazy but have you ever seen Crouch sprint? Palacios would be awesome but if we have to pay either of them above 50k/week then its really going to damage team morale.
Honestly, I would not pay 10 million for Peter Crouch at 31 he simply isn't worth it. Palacious yes please but it has gone on for far too long. I had actually forgotten we were still trying to sign both... IF they really wanted to sign, I think they would have before now. Can we have Defoe instead of Crouch Please
