I watched Lawrence of Arabia, with Peter O'Toole, for the first time ever, last night [into the wee hours, I might add as it is bleeding long - thank goodness for the intermission]. And so finally, after something like 30-40 years of having the opportunity to watch it, but never got round to it, I can see why it has had such a big reputation as an epic film. I did similar with the Godfather films a few years back. They were also epic. At the moment I can't see myself ever getting around to Apocalypse Now. ;)

Apocalypse Now is worth it. Tough but worth it. Sheen and Brandon are excellent.

    Peter O'Toole is fabulous.

Apparently Martin Sheen found out he'd had a heart attack while making that film [he'd felt very unwell and went to his doctor for a check -up, IIRC]

Peter O'Toole is just Peter O'Toole. There has been the odd time where I've been unable to watch him because I've felt he's been hopelessly miscast. But when he's rightly cast there is nobody better. Yes, I can't see anyone else playing T. E. Lawrence after that. Nobody is going to remake that film.

I didn't know that about Sheen. In a strange way, that might have contributed to his performance.

Yeah, look it up. I may have got the details incorrect, but I know he had a heart attack during the filming.

Wonderful film. Watched it with my Dad when I was little and was blown away by it. Watched it again a few years ago and my feelings hadn't changed. A true epic.

Watch the cinematic release rather than the redux version. Yes the redux is a fuller film, but there's still some unnecessary elements to it. Watch the redux when you've decided if you enjoy it.

I've got the special edition blu ray with both versions and the documentary but sadly not got round to the documentary yet.

My absolute favourite book, enjoyed the first episode of the show despite my prior reservations about someone adapting that particular story. Gaiman seems pleased which is a good start, and I can't wait for the rest of the series - I just hope they do it justice.

Just been speaking to a relative [thankfully, a very, very distant cousin, through marriage] who thought that Al Murray aka The Pub Landlord had similar political views as his character, and it was just his humorous way he put things across.

    O. M. LeG, I thought. :emoticon-0114-dull:

Reminds me of those people who agreed with Alf Garnett back in the 1960's.

Indeed. I understand that we have even more of them in power after the local elections today. What is happening to this country.?

I can't believe how so many millions of ordinary people can vote for people who don't have their voters' best interests at heart. You could argue that politics has always been like this, and I mean in all political parties, but it just seems to have got an awful lot worse.

I used to find Al Murray quite funny, didn't realise half the population would take him literally!

Doubt it's half. Most get his point.....just like most people understood that Alf Garnett was stupid.
