Hull are playing very attractive attacking football AT HOME which is one of the big minuses with Puel. Home form. Hull came to us playing tight as most teams down the bottom will do away from home.

Calm down, calm down, it was a jokey reference to the pitiful prevalence of pessimism on here every summer. I didn't say your post was a meltdown. Try reading what I said rather than what you think I said. I accused you of "tired tropes" not "meltdown". Official meltdown season doesn't start until May so it can't have been a meltdown.

How daft to complain when someone responds to a sarcastic post like that. God forbid anyone disagrees with your views. This isn't a bloody forum, you know!

I'll restate your argument - if you don't want replies, don't post on the internet. Yes, there are billions of things to respond to but you're lucky - I chose yours.

    Vin

PS That last sentence - I nearly drowned in the irony

What a load of hogwash, but better than responding with a line of zzzzzzzzzz like the other five year olds.

I didn't actually say I don't want replies. I am not hurt by your post, just bemused you took the time to thump out all those zs when you found my post so boring. You've never posted anything I found remotely interesting, but I have never typed out a line of zs? I guess I don't have the intellect to manage that one?

Please don't ask me to calm down, either. It's rather presumptuous and a bad habit in a discussion.

This is more like it. A good old fashioned humdinger. Far too much rational thought gone into some of these posts.

Puel must stay. We appointed him and unless he is found guilty of inappropriate sexual behaviour he should be given a chance to do the job over a sensible period of time. This season has been crap. We lost Fonte; we've proven that, sadly, Jay is off the pace; Long has struggled to hit a cow's arse; we bought a risky one in young Sofiane who may yet come good; we've had players out for bloody weeks with ****ty little injuries and we had the League Cup stolen from us by a crap official. Which of those can be laid at Puel's door? The signing of our Moroccan boy. Even if he doesn't come good, there were very sound reasons to think he might.

He has played kids, taken us to Wembley and given the most consistent player the Captain's armband. Move on.

Cripes. 3,766 posts without a flicker of interest? Wow. You clearly have some kind of issue with me to say that so whatever it is I did to upset you, whether in this life or a previous one, I apologise. You seem to be somewhat overreacting whatever the cause, so I'll leave you alone for a bit.

Despite your request, I will say that you really do need to calm down as you're appearing very angry over a trivial comment on an internet forum. Doubtless you'll tell me you're not angry but you certainly come across that way. If you appear angry then to everyone else you actually are angry.

Do you need someone to hold your coat, Vin?

Would hate to see how he'd respond to something really crap, or have I missed something?

It is May. And I think the season is starting. I can feel it. A little early but the early shoots are popping through.

Bertrand denies a rift with Puel and says he is happy here and is supportive of Puel.

Quote: “It’s been a full on season and it’s hard to come to your first job in English football, to follow what we’ve done last year and to cope with the demands of all the games,” he said. “But I think he [Puel] has come in and done really well''.

Oh bless. When is he signing for Chelsea then?

On a more serious note, I'd be worried if there had been a genuine rift with any player. Tadic has been mentioned. A problem of the modern age is that moaning about your boss is now open to public scrutiny. When Lawrie was appointed, Terry Paine ran the club and Lawrie knew he had to go if the club was to progress. The shock felt by Saints fans at the time was huge. We'd just been relegated to Div 2, and a Saints legend was being transferred. The full story didn't emerge for some years. As a result, we can enjoy the sight of seeing both Lawrie and Terry being lauded at St Marys, as they both deserve. Had the story of the binge drinking culture and Terry's domination of the club been the subject of gossip, social media and a forum like this the damage could have been enormous. Sadly, that bloody McMenemy proved to be the worst managerial appointment in our history, as no doubt many argued at the time. :emoticon-0100-smile

It's a problem with the whole social media "everyone's opinion matters" culture. Where we all would have a moan in the pub on a Friday night about the boss, by whatever name he was known (bosses were all men in my early days; there has been some progress!), in today's world it is as likely that a dissatisfied worker turns to Twitter. Large bags of salt are required in this rumour-ridden age. Ryan Bertrand strikes me as a no-nonsense sort of bloke. It is quite likely that when he has an opinion he will express it. He may well have added to Claude's vocabulary in the process, but Claude is, I am sure, no shrinking violet. So there may well have been a couple of straight talking encounters. It is hardly front page news.

Puel could be another Lawrie. We had to give Lawrie time. FFS, in his first season he got the club relegated; we spent 4 years getting back and we lost another Saints all-time legend before doing so. Winning the FA Cup, it may be argued, saved his career. But I don't think so. The board backed the guy they'd appointed and he came good big style. Get off Claude's back, let him build the team he wants with a better summer window (that may see big names go) and let's start judging next season.

Top analysis Fran. That quote is the most interesting because it's genuine empathy for Claude.
It looks like Bertrand is a Puel apologist

I actually quite like Puel. I've said before I am firmly sat on the fence as to whether I think he should stay or go - good arguements for both imo.

Although overall I'd probably say due to bad luck (Wembley linesman and plenty of injuries) and the fact we did get to Wembley he has done well and deserves to stay. The only criticism which stops me being fully convinced is that throughout the majority of the season we have played really negative football and been boring to watch. That is something that really bugs me especially after being treated to watching us play under Pochettino. Can't stop thinking about it when I analyse the situation.

I thought with our model we chose managers and players to fit our system, rather than bringing people in who would make us have to change the way we play?

That's the aim...it won't work every season faultlessly. We started the season a striker and a CB short. No injuries and we'd have been OK. The changing around that Puel has done has 3 reasons...the schedule including Europa, his desire to understand players esp. the younger ones, and later our injuries. The injuries have been vindication of blooding as many players as possible.

The greatest criticism is that we have looked boring after the Poch, Koeman and even Adkins eras...this may come down to how he wants the team to play, but also may reflect the hole in the team from losing Wanyama, Pelle and, especially, Mane. We'll be better able to judge that next season after, hopefully, Les et al have plugged the problem areas.
