Morning all, a bright and sunny start to the day, but light rain forecast for later. Looks as if my plumbing repair was 99% successful, but is the one drip in the bowl from before or after I glued it back together?
Morning all, overcast currently, but the promise of sun and warmth is not far away. Trying to get my vegetable areas ready for my holiday with additional protection against the wild life. I returned last year to find that much of it had been attacked, but the fences have been reinforced against the deer and boar, and netting is being put in place to stop birds enjoying the seedlings that are popping up. Is it worth it? The flavours when successful say it is.
https://www.bookbub.com/ I don't know how many on here have a kindle - or any other e-reader - but I stumbled across the above little gem of a site quite by accident the other day. What it does is collate all free or reduced price offers from the various sources on a daily basis and lists them in an email to you. Registration is free and it allows you to select as few or as many genres as you like - thanks to it, I've downloaded 8 free books this week. Handy really, as I handed in my intention to retire today - I'll need something to do on those long sunny days in the garden...
I hope you enjoy your days in the sun BB. I did see last week that that the printed book is making a come back at the expense of e-books. I have one on my tablet, but still prefer the feel of ink on paper.
I certainly will - even if I have to go back to Oz to find them... I think there is a place for both printed and e-book. Yes, it's nice to feel the ink on paper, but carting the paper versions around can be a bulky nuisance - whereas a kindle can have as many as you want in your back pocket.
I love books and have several hundred both hardback and paperback. when I moved two years ago a cardboard box filled with book is virtually impossible to lift, let alone carry!
I love books also, so much that I cannot get rid of them. Bookcases full, and the overflow is now on shelves in my barn. A friend had to create a policy that if he bought a new book an old one had to go as he ran out of space. A charity I support out here runs a book exchange scheme, so you pay €1 to buy a book, then if you wish, return it for resale.
We have book cases in every room and several thousand volumes. We decided a few years ago we would throw away or give away a book every time we bought a new one. So how is it there are now books on top of the book cases and on one or two window sills? I think visitors must secretly bring them in their luggage and choose a suitable place to deposit them before leaving! 'The Glint of Silver'. 'The Wide Embrace', 'The Morning Gift' and 'The Knife Edge' are available as proper paperbacks and on Kindle of course! And 'The Leechbook' is 56,000 words of a first draft completed. Just saying!!!!
I think I am getting too old for all this stress. My local team go ahead 1-0 in the 60th minute. The score stays the same to the 90th minute, which is hard to cope with. Up goes the board with an additional 12 minutes of added time. Glad to say that we held on for the points, and now need just one win and a bit of luck because of goal difference to win promotion to Ligue 2. Only two games left.
