I agree that he genuinely did want to be saviour of Hull City, I think he wanted to be revered by the majority of the people of Hull, rather than just those involved at the Uni and Castle Hill. He obviously also had plans for how he could generate extra income from developments, while in turn also leaving a lasting legacy in his memory. Sadly, he's made a right ****ing mess of it.
I think he saw it as both a way to do something for the people of Hull and also a way to make money , why not ? His mistake seems to have been that he thought when he put the money into Hull City the council would just do whatever he wanted after that
I think most of what has been said has grains of truth. I think he thought he could be the Club and City's benefactor by creating property development projects he thought would be made available through his so-called generosity. These projects weren't made available, he took rancour at that and started his highly vindictive campaign of hate against everythg 'City'. This included hus customers, as well as the wider population. He clearly thought he could make money (and that was the discussion point), what he might of done with it no one really knows. His subsequent actions might be a market, though.
An example of how a relatively small club can make money, they filled the bit under the new stand with a shopping mall. It could fit Prinny Quay, Prospect center and St Stephens inside. It just takes all the parties working together.
There are already some plans for a development at the stadium, they were just shelved when the Allams thought they were selling, presumably any new owner would revisit them.
Assem was promised the freehold by a councillor or councillors and he already had a buyer lined up. When Geraghty said he couldn't have the freehold the sale fell through and Assem Allam was left with Hull City. Hence the bitterness bewteen the Allams and the Council. I used to think it was the Liberals who promised him the freehold, now I'm not so sure. I have an idea who did it and where but I've given up speculating in the public.
Really, I'm surprised you think its full of ego. Cityman is bright enough to keep suggesting names until I give him who I think it is. So he now knows its not Bayes and that if he suggests another name he'll not get an answer.
I have no doubt that Obi, knows exactly what went on. I also have no doubt that he will not name names. This isnt a comment aimed at you as a poster. I find it odd that some posters never get challenged and yet others do.
Am I 100% certain who promised Assem Allam the freehold? No I'm not. I'm only 95% certain who did it and where. Am I 100% certain Assem Allam was promised the freehold? Yes. Am I 100% certain Assem Allam bought the club to sell it on once he got the freehold? Yes.
It wasn't the club he was after, but the land to develop.not that much different to David Lloyd really
