To be fair, there are several who take the more civilised approach.

An example of the memory playing tricks. I would have sworn that was the second leg to actually get us through. 0-0 in the reverse fixture?

It was indeed 0-0. Gallas, Dawson and Gomes were sensational. I watched the game from behind the sofa.

  7. Palacios I think.... might be wrong.

  8. Cancel that - judging by the lazy way he then followed the break, I reckon it was Nico K <laugh>

What I also loved about that tie was the Goon 606 arrogance/delusion
that in hindsight signalled even then that the power shift was coming :

They claimed AC Milan were full of old / has-been players etc, and
that is why Spurs went thru. The next season, the Goons drew AC in the
CL last 16 and LOST 4-0 at the San Siro to effectively the SAME SIDE
    Spurs played. :D

Now I am not condoning the reaction of the Boro players, Fabio particularly, but this was a catastrophic error by the officials with consequences for the clubs PL status. Should we expect a similar punishment to be heading Kevin Friends way - or heaven forbid a retrospective punishment for diving against Sane??
    No I didn't think so!! <doh>

A lot of those players at Boro won't play PL Football again. Most will suffer a 50% cut in wages. To suffer that because the referee guessed and a Citeh player cheated must be gutting.

Video refereeing cannot be introduced quickly enough. Athletics is fighting for its existence because people don't trust that it isn't dodgy. Awarding penalties for nothing to 'big clubs' and ignoring offsides in their favour has to be addressed if the game wants to remain credible in the light of the television coverage that we have now.

Even FIFA are accepting of the fact that change is necessary and it needs to be done soon.

Been on our local news today - as well as the national news.
It's surprising how many sportsmen suffer mental health problems despite all the trappings of their wealth and fame.
I hope he gets the support he needs.
    I wish him well.

I'm not sure how surprising it is, to be honest.
Lots of youngsters, a ton of pressure, wildly unrealistic expectations and a lot of potential for "failure", all wrapped in a very macho culture.
There's probably a lot of stigma in the game against getting help and I'd have thought that some treatment would be risky, too.
How many of the medications that could help would flag you up on drugs tests, for example?

It sounds extremely callous to say it, but how many top clubs would avoid signing anyone with a history of mental health issues, too?
That's a big reason to avoid seeing anyone, if you're hoping to progress in your career.

The better treatments are person-to-person related. Counsellors, physiotherapists, and the like

I've just read the FA's banned substances list (wow, it's huge) and I couldn't see any of the common mental illness drugs listed. Saying that though, beta blockers are listed and they are used to treat some mental illnesses

Hearing over the past few days about the FA's trial of sin bins. Sounds an interesting idea on one hand, but on the other will in practice surely be just another instrument for the refs to (subconsciously or otherwise) favour certain clubs. May even reinforce a bad decision. Can you imagine the ref unfairly giving a penalty to the "big team" (not that that would ever happen!) and then sending one of the players from the other team to the sin bin for complaining about the wrong decision! But whatever the circumstances for sending someone to the bin, you can be sure that due the subjective nature of the decision to do so, it will be unfairly applied.

And on a similar matter, just wanted to reiterate what others have said about the FA punishing Boro for "failing to control their players" because what actually happened was that they complained too much about Mane cheating. The video evidence (available at the time let us not forget) and certainly available to the FA later, clearly showed that the Boro players were right, so rather than take the moral high ground like the Italian FA that banned the player for diving, they uphold the decision of the cannot-make-a-mistake ref (who from the video appeared not to be able to see what happened) and punish Boro for being right. I think Boro should refuse to pay!

It'll be an instrument for faking injuries too. If a player on my team is sin-binned for ten minutes, I'd roll around on the floor until he came back on

Also would be a good plan for a rest. Lump Wilshere into row J and then have a nice sit down for 10 minutes.

Star Wars was exceptional for it's time. I remember going to see the original at the cinema. Later films have been much of a muchness. The last one I thought was a step up from the previous three, but nowhere near as good as many others made out because it just ripped off so much from the first one, or the fourth depending on how you label it, and there were a few elements of the plot that really wound me up.

The thing that I always never got with Star Wars though is that I've always thought the character names were absolutely awful. Yes I do realise it was a long time ago and far away (1977 in the Gants Hill Odeon I think), but compare it to say Lord of the Rings, which is also set in a made up land (I think called New Zealand) and the names are brilliant.

Full-back Danny Rose (knee) is stepping up his training with the first team and is looking to return to full training next week. Centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers (knee) is unlikely to be available for the remainder of this season.
