Not the biggest fan of Long, but to be fair to the guy, he is not a lone striker type of player. The same could be said about Austin, but is there a way of getting one of these playing with Gabbi ?
Are Chelsea going to be our new Liverpool? http://readsouthampton.com/2017/05/02/chelsea-stepping-cedric-interest/
I think we should ask for Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christiansen, and Nathan Ake, plus £50 million for Virgil. That would sort our defensive issues out at a stroke!
Now read an article saying that Virgil has agreed to join Liverpool if they reach the top four. I'm resigned to him going this summer but if goes to Liverpool I will be spitting flames. One - he can do so much better. Two - that'd make him the 6th player in 4 summers that we would have sold to Liverpool. 6. That's a joke and I'd like to think that the board would show some ****ing backbone.
Where ever VVD goes (I really hope he doesn't but I don't hold up much hope of our board standing firm) that we rinse them for every penny as we have 15% to go to Celtic and we have about 5 years wages (@ circa £70k pw) to pay VVD for leaving unless he puts in a transfer request Doesn't leave a lot out of £50m
http://sportwitness.co.uk/players-father-frank-potential-move-southampton-chelsea-says/ Christianson's father doesn't seem impressed with his son going to Southampton.
I do not agree with any team signing a 16 year old on professional or trainee terms if they are offered a contract by their current club. I don't agree with it when we do it.
His son won't get it at Chelsea and we now have a reputation for giving players game time. The man is pretty blind.
Fair enough, thought was a dig at Everton, my mistake I agree fwiw, but sadly the nature of the beast.
I've always said that the club that develops a player should have first refusal. Another issue I have on this topic is the ability of English clubs to sign young Spanish players as professionals because the rule here allows them to do it a year earlier. Arsenal did it with Fabregas and Bellerin. I think Chelsea may have done it with Oriol. All from Barcelona.
Yep, I believe that rule was loosened around the time the 'category' system came in. Seem to remember smaller clubs complaining about it at the time. Wasn't aware of the second one. Doesn't seem right either though.
I'd imagine a masssive chunk of the remaining contract will be waivered by VVD to get the move? If I were LR, I want the deal to be £50 million for saints after any sell on clauses etc etc. But that's just me
That would be nice, Saints £50m, Celtic get £7.5m and VVD gets a signing on fee from Chelsea/Scousehampton/Arsenal/Manure/City/Everton....have I missed anyone else?
