I think people are conviently forgetting the 2 very good saves he made at Wembley and the 2 very good saves today. Actually, VDS might not have saved the 1st of Dea Gea's saves as he (VDS) has a tendancy to push to his right whenever someone shoots on the angle from his left (cite goals conceded against Olic, Drogba and Pedro).

VDS made lots of mistakes, the first goal that Schmiechel conceded in a United shirt was an absolute shocker as well (against Leeds I think when he missed the ball completely from a cross if I can remember correctly).

Granted he should have saved it so it was a bad, bad mistake. But I'm thoroughly pissed off at the way he is portrayed as some kind of calamity keeper.

I'm a newcastle fan, watched the game, I felt sorry for him to be honest, mistakes do happen and I feel sorry for him he looked really uncomfortable. He looks like a canny lad and I hope he comes good for you to be honest, but he needs to get rid of the bum fluff it looks a bit weird.

I liked how the commentators slated him in the latte 3rd of time, when he was getting clattered.

Yeah! 'De gea can't keep hold of it again' thats because he was tackled in the air. That's even illegal in rugby!

Re the goalkeeping and comparing De Gea with VDS, I agree with Polar Bear - VDS was far from blameless in the two CL finals they played against Barsa. Last one he shouldn't have played, but I think Fergie let his sentiments get the better of him for once. De Gea is young and will get better and more reliable, IMO.

Are you serious? VDS made tons of mistakes! Apart from the ones I mentioned in my post, there was Messi's goal in the CL final. There was Tchoyi last season when he dropped the ball for no reason whatsoever. And then there was the Brown own goal against Liverpool where he punched the ball for no reason against Brown. And that's just the ones I can be bothered to remember.

This isn't me hating on VDS. People just need to get into perspective. He is 20, moving to an alien country. He can't be rubbish if he has already played in over 100 club games, won European trophies for club and country.

And the media isn't helping. There was a few times when he was pole-axed in the middle of the air and the commentators criticised him for not holding onto the ball.

Geez i wish so called "pundits" on Radio and TV would stop judging a keeper after 2 games, sure he's made mistakes, however he is young he needs to build an understanding with his defence and he probably just neets to settle his nerves for playing for United, i wish people would give him a good bit of time to settle in, mistakes are going to happen, but they are no worse than some of the ones VDS managed at the end of last year

I'm glad he's getting these mistakes out of the way early and that so far they haven't cost us.

Trust me, in the 6 years he was here VDS didn't make many mistakes. This isn't me being critical of de gea either. He's moving from one country to another where the goalkeeping is incredibley different. He doesn't speak the same language as the back four and won't be able to command his area.
This spanish bloke they got on SSN got it right as he said he will be a world beater, but we are looking at 3 months to improve not 3 games.

    Fair do's.

What else I'm kind of annoyed at is that we knew that VDS was retiring at the end of the season but SAF knew that we would be left with Tommy K, who is a good backup but not sure if he is a United number 1 and Lindegaard who is talented but has no experience at the level that United play at. I understand the thought of buying such a young keeper- he could be our keeper for the next 15 years- but it wouldn't have been such a bad thing to perhaps have bought in someone really experienced (e.g Friedel or Given) but the problem with that they could envisage being United number 1 for a few seasons. Or what I thought SAF should have done is bought someone this time last year and gently blood them into the team, which I thought he may do with Lindegaard but he got injuries and didn't have enough game time.

I'm a keeper so obviously I'm going to stick up for David but I really think he will be one of the best in the world in a few seasons at the most.

I think he's come to United at too young an age.

We should have taken someone experienced like Given or Friedel, and give a younger keeper time to mature. If Lindegaard proves to be "solid but unspectacular", then maybe he'll make a decent first choice.

Nah, he's got much more ability than Taibi. But he looks very nervous.
