The contract extension, if activated, takes him through until 2019, when he'll be 30. If he insists on leaving then, I hope that Carter-Vickers will be quite capable of being his replacement. He's reckoned to be a better prospect than Ledley King at that age. That's always assuming this isn't all just more gossip.
2019 is when this team will break up if we haven't transformed into cup and/or league winners. If we have got a league or 2 under our belt, the new stadium in place - why would anyone leave. We would be able to afford the higher wages in those circumstances.
CCV already looks Prem-worthy, he had a dodgy game against Wycombe but then so did all others on the pitch bar Son, Winks and the subs. Really excited to see him develop further. Would love it if he can indeed go on to be the next Ledley (just without the injuries!).
In the last couple of games, Poch has seemed to find some uses of Sissoko. Will he now be staying at spurs indefinitely as a handy tactical sub?
Sissoko is of no real use to Pochettino. However he is of use to Levy, and will be staying at Spurs until tis worked out how to claim back from HMRC (via their ongoing investigations into PL player tax avoidance/evasion) as much as possible of the 30m transfer fee that Spurs have paid the Toon to date.
Bassong's been released by Norwich. Always liked him at Spurs and felt a bit sorry for him in that his game time became limited after a great debut season due to the arrivals of Woodgate and Kaboul (and I think Gallas too). Will never forget his winning header on his debut against Pool after Benny scored that rocket. If Wimmer goes, which is looking increasingly likely in my opinion, I wouldn't mind seeing him brought back. At 30 and coming from the Championship, I think he'd definitely settle for a bit part role now and being a more experienced head he could be quite useful for someone like CCV to play alongside in lesser priority games.
Definitely not. Everytime i've seen him play it goes from brilliant to terrible. Man's a walking liability and he always has 1 per game. However more than happy for you guys to pick him up!
Probably because he's with a **** side. He barely put a foot wrong for us when he was given a consistent run, it was just a case of King, Woodgate, Dawson, Kaboul & Gallas being preferred options when they were fit - and understandably so as all were more established centre halves. Look at Moses pre-this campaign, who envisioned an average journeyman winger to become one of the leagues best full backs? Being in the right environment massively helps a player. Chances are Poch won't even blink at Bassong anyway, was just throwing the suggestion out there as a possible option should Wimmer need replacing. Maguire seems to be our preferred choice - which I'm buzzing with as I think he's a top young CB with a bright future.
Based on the last eighteen months worth of stories about Spurs players refusing to sign new contracts, expect to see a picture of him with Poch's arm around his shoulder as he signs the contract posted on our Twitter within a fortnight.
true. Their is something about Poch that makes players want to play for him. It showed at Southampton before that team got dismantled and it's showing at Spurs as well that all your key players have pretty much signed long term contracts. I think it's partly that all your key players were brought up to standards and given the chance by poch. It will be interesting to see what happens when the big clubs come calling as before this season, there wasn't any superstars per se but good players in a good team. This season has shown that it's not a 1 off and actually there are a few players that are bordering on superstar status playing within a great team structure. With all the new signed contracts though it will be in levys hands
They've also released John Ruddy, for whom they once turned down a £6m bid from Chelsea. This is only about four years ago and he was making the England squad. I wonder what's gone wrong with him?
Wouldn't surprise me if Bassong and Ruddy had clauses in their contracts saying that, if Norwich failed to go back up at the first attempt, they're free to go - and with Norwich ten points off 6th with one game remaining, that sounds feasible. Also it's worth noting that, according to FM12, Bassong was on £55k p/w at Spurs - so it wouldn't surprise me the reason we sold him was to lower the wage bill
I'd expect that you're right about wages being a massive issue. It'll be interesting to see where they end up.
http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...lona-rumours-says-players-agent-a3528851.html Well that's a change of narrative!! Good on, Eriksen!
Ruddy could be involved in a great big Goalkeeper merry-go-round this summer. Hart is surplus to requirements, Real are sniffing around De Gea (or Courtouis depending on which paper you read), Pickford could be up for grabs, Arsenal and Man City look weak in those positions (so expect them to do nothing about it), Newcastle and Brighton could be looking to strengthen and plenty of the mid-table also-rans (like Everton) have less than convincing options there. Could be all change for a lot of teams (except Spurs hopefully though wouldn't say no to Pickford in place of Vorm).
I'm sure the papers will link Hugo with a move somewhere mate, they've already sold 70% of our first team anyway.
Talking of CB's I've been very impressed by young Alfie Mawson at Swansea. Has loads to learn but even in a frankly shocking back line looks extremely calm and assured on the ball. Plays out from the back and regularly roams forward to join attacks. Like a young Jan Vertonghen really. If they drop I'd say he is well worth a look, despite only signing for them last summer. Only on 20k per week ('only') and we have established quite a good working relationship with swansea down the years. Also, his name rhymes with 'Dawson' which is a massive plus
What are Barnsley doing to produce these centre-halves that are good on the ball that other clubs aren't? First John Stones, the occasional defender, then Mawson. Maybe we should cut out the middleman and have a look at who came through next?
