Crikey, either I'm losing interest in horse racing or the St Leger is becoming a bit of a nothing race, not worthy of the tag "classic". It isn't the former. Extract from ATR 15.10 Ascot race summary "It was not a vintage renewal of the St Leger that Harbour Law won last September ...............". Well I think it's the first time I've not been able to remember one of last year's classic winners. Can't recall Harbour Law winning the St Leger . Maybe it's an age thing
Nothing But Dreams NR again Yarmouth 17.20 The Grand Visir Pontefract 16.00 Mittens Ascot 14.35 Icespire Ascot 15.45 Blue Point Straight win accum
Ryan goes to Yarmouth for 4 rides tonight 3 of them Evens or shorter with the Frankel colt in the first the biggest at 2/1! Not for me at the moment but could be nice easy acca (if there is such thing!!)
3.10 ASCOT- PALLASATOR - 3/1 One of the bad boys of the flat game! Always has to be taken down early as he is such a liability, but he has some talent. Had a cracking season last year coming second in both the Lonsdale Cup and the Goodwood Cup. Won first time out at sandown then could excuse his run there the next time got caught in traffic and lost momentum, however still stayed on strongly. The Ascot gold cup is always going to beyond him add to the fact it was Soft not a lot went in his favour! This race a lot weaker than what he was running last year and although didn't run well here in 2015 can be easily forgiven! Will have his good to firm ground today and has the best form in the field by far, SMP had a winner in the last at Chelmsford yday so everything is in place for a win today!
Hello, you types. Nothing for me today but one has had a ‘Classic Double’. In the 2,000 CHURCHILL – named after the Hill that leads up to the Church. And in the 1,000 FAIR EVA – named after the lovely Leanne’s sister in Coronation Street. I think the former should be long odds-on and the latter is the ‘hope of the county’ and her win in last terms ‘Princess Margaret’ was one of those truly ‘wow, I say wow’, moments that only happen in the sport once every few years. Am quite confident of collecting re this wager and Diane Abbott (no relation to Newton) has just told me that if successful I will win £300k. Nice. Good luck all.
Finally I get the reason they call it a Barney Rubble!! It's named after you and the Wiltshire nickname of the town you live in!!! On a side, do you think the much better town of Cirencester will be a better racehorse than the ever disappointing Chippenham? What is it with naming horses after towns anyway?
Nassau, you old rogue, don’t go all ‘Mockney’ for heaven’s sake. Next you will be going round shouting about ‘the apples and pears’ and a ‘Boat Race’ that doesn’t involve boats…or is even a race for that matter. Is Cirencester a lovely name for a filly??? Now that’s a debate that could last all day and something for the great brains to muse upon, methinks. Her chance to today has certainly improved as there are 3 non-runners in that heat already! Old boy Gosden does though looks to have a very tight grip on that race.
Re naming of horses, Ballydoyle obviously had a floral spell a while back with Hydrangea and Rhododendron entered for the 1000 GNS. Two lovelier names for fillies I cannot imagine.
Just a few days to wait... http://www.chester-races.co.uk/content/boodles-may-festival-2017 What with the Play Offs for Rovers, Chester next week and the release of Alien:Covenant at the cinema, I need some medication to calm me down!!
Pontefract 4.35 Gin in the Inn Impressive at Redcar recently and a C&D winner last season. That's good enough for me. Good Luck.
3:25 Pontefract - Popsies Joy e/w (Chance in this if fit enough on first run of season. Only one win from 17 starts, but many decent runs last year. 14/1 in five places at time of writing, so will make it e/w).
I’ve never heard of that Mullins chap either. I see my Triumph Hurdle fancy Cosmeapolitan (we won’t dwell upon that) has got an entry for the Flat on Sunday (12 furlong handicap at Newmarket). Will he have a season ‘treading water’ on the Flat (currently perched on 95) before going back over hurdles later in the year or will Cosmeapolitan have the sort of campaign that will see him bordering on Group/Listed class by its conclusion??? You pays your money and you makes your choice. Although back in the NH sphere he could prove somewhat difficult to place as he’ll no longer be a novice and has very little experience in that game. Re Chester. The King/Ponsonby axis have got Who Dares Wins lined up for the ‘Chester Cup’. He’s 1/1 at the course (romped in by 5 lengths) and should have no probs with the trip (placed over 21 furlongs at the Cheltenham Festival). Two characteristics that most of the field won't comply with.
Morning all. I've had a nice little each way Lucky 15 on the 4 UK Frankel runners today just to keep the interest going (and myself awake!) ICESPIRE (Ascot) SEVEN HEAVENS (Ascot) THE GRAND VISIR (Yarmouth) HARBA (Yarmouth)
That's the problem! Trying not to sleep too much during the day otherwise I can't get to sleep at night - when he lets me!
