just seen gary cahill scortcher vs qpr well worth bringing to arsenal along with showacross and hangerland tighten up your defence
Defence was fine today and will no doubt improve over the season. A CB would be good though but I'm not sure about how Shawcross would fit in with us. I wonder if Cahill is worth the asking price - ooops I'm beginning to think like the Arsenal board!!! TBH I'm really not sure who to bring in and will leave the discussion on that to the better informed.
Can't help thinking that we should have signed Enrique, what was it £6m Liverpool paid? I think we'll bring in another CB before the window closes, I think it will be Jagielka. I still think we're going to need another CM too if both Cesc and Nasri go. Is the Mata deal still on the cards?
I think you are right on Mata. The management should have seen this coming or perhaps they were just flirting. If we end up with someone cheap and ineffective then I fear it will be all change at the top. I wonder again what the culpability of Gazidis is in all this?
I've not given up on Mata, the money for Fabregas should be enough to get him I think. When does the window close again?
The Metro have linked Arsenal with Marvin Martin, a midfield playmaker at Sochaux. He's only 23 and his 17 assists last season in Ligue 1 has helped him claim a spot in the France squad (3 caps, 2 goals). Seemingly he's got creativity in droves and excellent vision - two fundamental aspects of Cesc's game that we'll miss. However I'm concerned he looks too small and lightweight. Showcross is nowhere near the required Quality. Gary Cahill would be a truely excellent signing, he's powerful, robust but still good enough on the ball to play for Arsenal. Would be well worth the £17 Million asking price. The guy will end up at City or Chelsea if we dont make a move for him. He's the natural successor for John Terry at Chelsea.
I think I remember him having an exceptional game for france a few months back. Can't pretend I know much about him though.
Wenger will not make any more signings, remember you heard it here first. He has discounted Mata and Jadsen, Jagielka though good is too old and AW steadfastly believes we have 'enough quality in the squad' (sic) Still with denilson gone and eboue going we can't have everything all at once.
That's the thing about Arsene's choices. I'm not saying he has not made good ones but they largely ( pun not exactly intended ) seem to be on the small side which also means that our defenders can't defend in the air and get ' bullied '....
Arsene and the board won't pay that sort of money for him. They would rather pay considerably less for an unknown whom they could cash in later on at an attractive profit. Still..... miracles may happen.
I think that Wenger isnt afraid to shell out when he needs to. After all, he just spent 15 million on one player...
OK then the point we need to address or rather which Arsene needs to address is when that need arises. When he sells a LB and does not bring in cover for that position instead promotes a young ' apprentice ', when he knew all along both creative midfielders would be leaving yet does not bring in replacements for them ( or at least hasn't ), the question then must be what he perceives as a need. Yesterday we were badly in need of creativity. OK it was the 1st game of the season but given our performance since February, i would have thought that he would be looking to instilling some confidence in the club and it's fans. Yesterday wasn't quite the way to go about it nor in fact the club's performance thus far in the transfer market. I don't think it is all Arsene's fault. Mr Gazidis bears at least half of the responsibility for this.
No idea Friend As it is we cannot approach every game with the same confidence as we used to. That's not saying we won't win. It's just that we need to make every opportunity count. AOC was on the bench on Saturday so he may be used at some point in the future. Going back to the point I was making earlier, I do not mean to suggest that a handsown homegrown player cannot rise to the occasion of replacing a departing key individual. After all that's what the youth policy is about, grooming players to take their place in the first team. And of course with young players, you have to give them a chance to show what they can do. However some of the young replacements Arsene has used are still not quite ready and we could be at a critical stage now that if you do not have the right players in place then the club's place in the Top 4 may not be guaranteed. Is this a risk Arsene and Gazidis are prepared to take? Would they be happy enough to see us play in the Europa League? Like most fans, I say no thanks
