Being serious for just one second. I think they have a real problem, maybe bigger than many are willing to admit. It is impossible to say which way it will go with Sunderland. It really all does depend on what Short does. I assume he will do an Ashley, sell off the players of value and then reinvest it - but as our accounts showed its not that simple. So the likes of Pickford, Kone, Khazri will be used to generate some funds. The problem they have which we didn't is they don't have as much of a ready made squad and will struggle to generate 75m from the sale of just 4 players (Sissoko 30m, Wijnaldum 25m, Townsend 13m, Janmaat 7.5m). Like us they will have some big wages coming off the books - we loaned a lot out like De Jong, Thauvin, Saivet, Riviere, Krul plus Tiote, Coloccini, Cisse, Taylor all left on frees. People go on about us spending masses of money but we generated a huge amount of money before the parachute. True we didn't see it all in one go and Ashley had to pump some of his own money in, but he knew it was coming. The bottom line is though is we made 30m and he still had to pump another 30m in because of structured deals like Sissoko's and the general cost of relegation.

The big question is will Short stump up some of his own cash to fund a return. He will have to because Sunderland won't get promoted just because they have a few decent young players (if they do). Certainly Defoe will go on a free. There is a big goal problem straight away. As we have seen with Gayle if you are looking to buy a goalscorer, even average ones now cost decent money. So even if you think positive and say Sunderland can generate 50m from the sale of the above 3 mentioned which may be fanciful now, how much of that is sucked up by relegation. It all comes down to how much Short has to put in and how much he is willing to.

I said Moyes was a bad choice. Sunderland had a bad enough situation with the owner without bringing in such a dour ****er with such a negative approach. Allardyce may be a complete knob and quite negative tactically at times, but at least he believes in himself completely. They cannot under any circumstances retain Moyes services as he could take them down again due to the resentment towards him, but he is not the first problem which needs solved - its the money that matters in football (sadly). Then they need a boss who will give them some sort of identity and be positive. I think Sunderland have a much tougher task than we did.

With all that in mind I hope they retain Big Dave and Trigger Happy loses his wallet <laugh>

    I like
I like it, I don't think they will be able to refloat their sinking ship in such a short space of time to get promoted next season. Short has proved himself to be a bit of a novice where employing the right people are involved. I see a difficult season ahead for them, the championship is a tough league. Maybe they will be happy with mid table? <laugh>

That's clearly where they've gone wrong this year! Should have changed managers a couple of times and benefitted from the resulting honeymoon periods.

Makes you wonder how much they ended up forking out in compensation to pay them all off...

I think I will just watch through my fingers as it's unlikely to be pretty. Aston Villa were better placed last year. We dodged a bullet thanks to a combination of having Rafa, Ashley's cash injection and having some players that goodness knows how weren't tainted by the relegation and could be sold for top dollar or loaned out.

You can slag off Ashley but there's not many Prem owners who would write out a personal cheque for £33 million even to protect their investment.

I have a warm glow over the fact that my team suffering relegation and being firmly in the clarts doesnt cause me severe mental anguish and psychologically generated stomach cramps anymore. Our dire situations over the last 5 seasons or so has numbed me to the point of not caring anywhere near as much to the point that SAFC is just an interest to me now rather than a passion. I have managed to tear myself away from the absurdity of focusing on things which are totally out of my control and can now concentrate on things that really matter. Feels great!

I think I've just grown out of caring. Why fill a sizable chunk of my brain worrying about a bunch of players who obviously dont seem to care, a club who doesnt know what they are doing, whilst they all get alot richer in the process. I'm sure a nail biting push for promotion from a group of eager players/manager who actually care may change my view but the utter non stop half arsed garbage that we have had to endure over the past few years has helped put me right off football in general. If a match is on the telly I tend to get bored after 20 minutes and turn it over and watch Judge Judy. Dont even watch Match of the Day on the occasional weekend when Sunderland win. The actual game on the pitch I now find boring. What keeps me interested are more the things that happen off the pitch, the media, and contributing on forums such as this. I get a hell of alot more enjoyment out of the crack rather than the game itself, something that has gradually engulfed me over time and not as a result of this seasons self destructive shenanigans.

I recognise the symptons - relegation comes almost as a blessed relief. Give Super League a watch - usually cracking games - no fancy dans and you're not bothered who wins or loses.

I wouldnt feel sorry for me. Worrying about Sunderland used to help fuel my anxiety disorder, it would sometimes cripple me. I'm chuffed to bits that at present I can now focus on the truly important things in life. My family would get frustrated with me wondering why I would get myself so worked up over something I had got no control over whatsoever. Why get myself so angry/depressed over a bunch of rich ****ers farting about whilst not caring as much as i did. They were right of course. Now I'm like an alcoholic who has finally beaten the booze. I'm probably gonna miss the buzz but I know that I'm alot better off without it.

A club in crisis.......relegated, two goals in their last ten games, no home win since mid-December, fans leaving at half time.

And worst of all for them, no sign of Moyes being fired <laugh>

So which one of your sacked managers would you like to see back in charge for next year's relegation push? <whistle>

p.s. Chippy told me to say that <laugh>
