Great another season of upheaval, really disappointing, as this time it is not a slimy two faced manager looking to jump up the ladder
To be fair you'd expect there to a be a review of sorts at the end of the season regardless, it won't necessarily lead to him getting the chop. I personally think that barring a huge collapse in our remaining games and dropping to 15th/16th he'll be here next season. That is of course, if the bust up rumours aren't true, in which case we have bigger problems than we realise.
Depends how the board see it. You could equally argue that who really cares if it's 9th, 13th, or 16th, if there's only about four points between all of them. Points haul could come into it much more than finishing position. (I appreciate that there's prize money to think of, but I don't know how much that would impact on their thinking)
Tbh it wouldn't really take a "huge collapse" for us to finish 15th or 16th, we are only 3 points ahead of 16th with 3 of the top 6 left to play. I still feel he should be given the summer and review before the January window, but if it comes down to the board admitting they ****ed up last summer and sticking with him or blaming him I think they will let him be the scapegoat.
Very true, and something we as fans can only speculate on. But wasn't there something that came out about the board had set targets at top 10 plus a domestic SF for the season? Again we can never know validity of these things but I've made the point many times this season that setting top half as an expectation for this season after the poor Summer window & EL was too much imo.
Yeah sorry poorly phrased, I mean by a huge collapse that we say only manage to get one more point or only score 2 goals from games left etc. The bit I've bolded btw I agree with, and could see as a possibility.
The other thing to bear in mind, is if a sale is quite close, will it even be Les etc. that make this decision? Or will the new owners have some input? Yes I'm wildly speculating here but I'm bored and not tired
It would be nice for us to be one taking a manager from a fellow PL club for once (if we were to replace Puel with Silva). But look, that is for another day.
I think Puel said his target was defined as top 10, cup semi-final or quarter-final (can't remember which) and to get out of the Europa group stage. Although we are results lead, there may be other issues to be considered. I think it's time to bury myself under the duvet. All I ever want as a Saints fan is the quiet life...never seems to last more than the odd month.
We should get a few more points that should give us top ten, given every other team's poor form, we had a final and blooded youth. So he has fallen out will players, well history has told us that players **** off anyway, so board back the manager and if Bertrand wants away more fool him, does he not remember the ten loan spells, really these guys do not realize when they have it good
All a bit cliché, and think it can sometimes make people imagine things to be far more dramatic/overblown than they are, but there's been enough public incidents even if you ignore private incidents behind closed doors. - PEH storming off - Fonte earlier this season - Long the other week when he got subbed - Redmond's odd comment in that interview he did - Bertrand talk that just won't go away
Disagree about Ryan. Different player to the one who signed for us on loan nearly 3 years ago. Would certainly walk into Liverpools team for example.
Certainly looking that way. Can see it being Liverpool too. Just hasn't looked right for large parts this season. With Virgil most likely going too that will be 50% of back 4 that needs replacing.
Yes on current form, but what happens when the inevitable blip comes and confidence drains and you have 40,000 fans baying and you Fo not have credit in the fans bank, bit of a risk for a player with a checkered past
