Someone has to point out the inconsistencies in some people's replies. Looks like I'm stuck with that job. LOL.
So hoping a former player 'rots in the reserves' is not wishing them ill? Get a grip - and some perspective whilst you're about it. "I just wonder how many people on here who are preaching about wishing ill as being wrong, were doing exactly the same thing when a certain mr martinez left." The circumstances were entirely different and you know it. The Martinez departure was highly controversial at the time for a whole host of reasons whereas De Vries and Pratley left on frees having fulfilled their contracts. De Vries broke Club records and was instrumental in our promotion, like it or not. Hoping he 'rots' says more about you than him.
Actually I was pretty annoyed at Martinez leaving, that probably lasted about a week truth be told, then I listened to his interviews saw the reasons in his own mind why he left, then thought well he's gone now we must go forward, and soon after we brought Sousa in, without him we would never have learned about defence as Martinez was all about offence. And Sousa left paving the way for Rodgers, I have come to learn through the years that the only loyalty in sports are the fans of the individual teams, the people playing are just doing a job like you or I, the difference is that they get paid an obscene amount of money imo compared to the average joe I think rather than wishing people to rot because we have lost them, you should simply thank them for their services, can I ask though, do you wish Pintado, Serran, van der Gun, Morgan and Grimes to rot as well because they don't play for us anymore?
He probably booes former players when they play us too, Jager. Just like a lot of numpties down the Liberty. Although Scotland's reception was largely supportive when Ipswich played us last an audible section of the crowd were booing him every time he touched the ball. Makes my blood boil.
Also just thought of it, your username has trundle in it, did you wish him to rot after he left us in the lurch at the start of the season, or is he an exception? And I know it's very unlikely but what would your thoughts be if either of these players came back to us like Britton ? Did you wish he would rot with sheff utd by the way ?
Shame they both went but life moves on and I think they will do well. I must admit that part of me does not want to see them too successful but I will always be grateful for the good service they showed when they were with us. The signing on fee they would have got would set them up for life so we cannot blame them for going when with a little better management of contracts could have kept them with us!
This has been explained in depth by Jenkins already , basically if we offered new contracts to them at that time we couldn't bring in Borini when we did, so what do you prefer premier league football with the help of him, or the possibility of championship football but keeping pratley and dorus? Oh and on the latter we probably would have lost most of our prized assets like Watford just did.
managers come and managers go, players come and players go..fans come and fans stay that is the nature of every football side...to wish former managers and players ill will is childish and shows you up to not be a nice person...just go with what is happening today and let the past go as you dont have any power to change things..
Too early to tell but both may have struggled to make our team this season. Both could well have been aware of some of the names on our shopping list and done some personal calculations and moved on as a result. Who knows. They are not with us anymore abd i wish them well unless they're playing us and I am happy with who we have on our books - I think our squad is definitely net stronger than at the end of May.
After talking to a mate who spends as much time trawling the internet as I do (with different sources, happily) he told me that he'd been using the "page translate" function on Google to have a look through all the Dutch football forums. General consensus is "he's lacking ambition going to the Swans, he should've gone to a club playing in the Champions League"! If this is true, we've bagged a bargain. In Buck we trust!
Vorm: Like most of you I wasn't familiar with our new keeper but this from a goalkeeping website. They were going on about how we had a keeper crisis then said this: ""The signing of Michel Vorm changes everything and when the season comes to an end £1.5 million fee could have him mentioned as the bargain of the season. Vorm is a an excellent goalkeeper. Although comparing him with a hypothetical hybrid does a disservice to all involved, for illustrative purposes I would see him as being something of a mix between Jorge Campos and Shay Given and hereâs why. Heâs got the spring-heeled agility of the Mexican goalkeeping legend. He absolutely launches himself at shots and combined with his superb reflexes, he is capable of pulling off virtually miraculous saves.Heâs quick off his line, incredibly brave and he has got really good hands, not dissimilar to the Irish international. Itâs no surprise to see him gain international recognition and heâll surely go on to amass more than his five caps over the next few years."
Yeah I've seen that, linked it into the Vorm thread that's disappeared into the annals of history on here I'm very excited by the guy. Everyone I've spoken to about him (and whose opinion on football I have time for) thinks we've got ourself the bargain of the season.
