I like him. Definitely happy for another year under him. I think he's a shrewd tactician who has brought on players like Romeu, JWP and Redmond well. He's also given our defenders complete confidence to play football more than they ever did under Koeman.

Can anyone link to this apparent Telegraph article which expresses doubt about him being here next year please?

    Thanks.

I haven't read the whole thread yet but my one question is - who would you (any you) have as Puel's replacement? I don't mean who would you like but who would actually come here? Wenger? Moyes?! Howe? Monk?! I don't know much about overseas managers but who will be available in the summer and who would come to St Mary's?

Glorious return of Pardiola for me. I would be willing to bet that if there was a poll of who to replace Puel with by the fans who want Puel gone that Adkins would win by a country mile, which may be a bit of a representation of their collective knowledge

Howe is certainly destined for bigger things than Bournemouth if he so chooses. I would love Howe at Saints at some point in the future.

I don't know. Football wasn't very exciting for the most part, although there were some good performances. Some players have improved and some academy players have made the step to the senior squad under Puel and are now viable squad players (Stephens, Mcqueen, Sims), which they really weren't before.

For the first part of the season we were rubbish imo, we didn't know how to score a goal and were so boring to watch, but in mitigation our defence was good but then we had Van Dijk. Later in the season Puel changed the formation and we became better in the attack, but shaky at the back, mostly due to Virgil's injury and selling of Fonte. The loss of Van Dijk cannot be overstated. Not only would he bring defensive solidity, but his calmness, leadership and technique improve immensely our build up as well. Had Puel had Van Dijk all this time, I'm sure a great deal of recent losses would be converted in draws and draws in wins. IMO he would be worth 10 more points for us at least.

Puel definitely deserves another go in my opinion. Don't know what people expect really. Is this squad that good that we should be any higher in the table than we are? Lost our starting CB partnership (One of which was a geniune world class defender, and the other Portuguese international which won the Euros last year) in the middle of the season and for the most of the season had two strikers which, combined, scored 5 goals in 37 matches. Yeah, that's a CL bound squad.

There is someone out there. Fans weren't familiar with Pochettino, Puel or even Koeman, to an extent. I'm sure Les has his list prepared.

Puel can't win. He gets us to a cup final, has successfully introduced several youngsters and has managed to keep us in the top half of the table despite our first proper season in Europe (and the aforementioned cup run). This however is not considered good enough because we were 6th last season after bombing out of Europe and the cups and not giving the youngsters a look in. We make loads of chances but our problem is our strikers can't hit a barn door. Austin found form and got injured. Gabbiadini got injured and hasn't scored since. Our defence was upset for half a season by a big headed captain and for the the second half by an injury to our best player. In my opinion he has done a good job with what he has. I don't believe Koeman would have done any better. Poch might have done.

I thought the same. As it was, it would just have been this thread all over again!

I thought those options summed up the situation very well indeed. How many people have posted on here complaining about the moronic comments of some fans who sit near them?

If you make the options a bit more even-handed it would make the poll more meaningful. I'll reopen it then.

Ok so change the second option to:

I have been disappointed with him and think we need to replace him.

I can't edit it as you have closed it.
