the difference is Couts was fouled & the pen should have been awarded anyway as advantage hadn't been gained. Like others have already said the problem is refs won't give pens if players don't go down .

    Spot on
The ref is instructed to see if an advantage is gained if not game to be pulled back
Again technology would have sorted that <laugh>

Mind you if anyone thinks this is a new phenomenon you should have seen Frannie Lee at work. He perfected the art of kicking his own foot whilst running and therefore falling in a totally natural way. To make it even "better" he was also the nominated penalty taker.

I struggle to moan about him though as i still have fond memories of his brilliant punch up with Norman Hunter at the Baseball ground :emoticon-0165-muscl

Disgraceful! I'd rather get relegated and play honest then have a team of cheats!!! ****ing hated it when Gerrard, Suarez, etc dived. Top players don't need to cheat ffs

Rashfords dive from what i saw was pretty horrific.

Funnily enough i thought Sanes wasn't that bad. He played for it but its not like he changed direction completely ala Young. He just kept running straight on.

Kanes was also a pen although he dived once he felt the contact. No way he was going down if he wanted to stay up

Not so much disgraceful as honest. If we were to get relegated because everyone else was doing it and we had took the moral high ground and - I think I would be mad (i think)

Saint said earlier that he felt that the old hard challenges were ligitimate in the game. I totally get what he is saying. However that was not right either. People went out to physically hurt people and some to attempt to end careers. Due to lack of cameras it was never highlighted and was very much up for debate.

At this precise moment this is part of the game - just like leg/back/neck and ball breakers were.
You are almost on the cusp of falling out of love with the game when u can't accept the game for what it is.

You say top players don't need to cheat
I think I could say show me one top top player who has never cheated to try to gain an edge
This includes, diving, feigning injury, timewasting, harassing refs, making false claims for throws, pushing shoving on corners, shirt grabbing. We won a CL where our goalie was about 5ft off the line ffs (not withstanding a debate on whether it was a pen or not, for 3rd goal)
I am certain there will not be one.

I suppose it all depend where the line is to you.

    Let's use Suarez an example...

One thing for certain is, takes every opportunity to gain an advantage. Without doubt, he's a cheating ****er. But he's got the ability to be a superstar without the cheating. Same goes for C.Ronaldo!

Messi is the closest thing to a top quality AND honest player there is (not so much off the pitch)

Whether it's Liverpool players or not, I truly want to see blatant doves be punished work 10+ game bans.

Why should we accept it as part of the game?

Sane's he kicked the ball to the left then ran/jumped right into the player who had stopped moving. They were both shocking and ref was behind players so didn't have clear view in either of them.

Kanes one was clear pen, Arsenal player Locke this shin but as you say on way down Kane put his leg out to make a 2nd point of contact. Wasn't needed because had already actually been fouled!

Only saw this one, in real time and even on replay de roon and sane come together. No way is sane going to change direction without replanting his feet after kicking it and by his next step de roon has him taken out. Wouldn't have given a pen though

both Sane & Rashford were obvious on first viewing - The fact that the Sane one was given was almost laughable imo. Another giveaway about the blatant cheating by Sane was the outrage shown by the Boro players.
My first thought was the Kane one was blatant dive (the kick out at oppo player type) but the replays showed contact first. Shows how difficult some of them are.

nah rewatched it, he plants his leg after kicking it (anyone who plays football knows after kicking the ball and running in one direction you don't magically changed direction) and his next step forward his leg knocks into de roons. He could probably have stopped his run but he was never getting out of the way and then he flops over.

Of course he flops over de roons leg but i wouldn't say he deliberately ran into de roon like everyone is saying. Similar to harold flopping as soon as he feels gabriels contact.

    I
morally imho you are totally totally right - and it should not be accepted but it just isn't the way the game is. Why is diving ( I assume) the one which you want to see punished the most (unless u being unusually strict on doves). I hate shirt pulling - I find that really snide cause it is something some can get away with and not others.
Unless we are going to clean the game up - I think Jimmy is right :(
Not saying I am happy about it like :)

So none of them are clean as it were
I would argue that Messi is one of the snidiest (?)
Suarez and Ronaldo - are at least honest about their dishonesty, you know what you face with those
Messi is fine until his side are losing then the hysterionics kick in - and his are shocking when he gets going.
What's worse is these guys are world class talent yet they feel the need to gain the extra edge. Sad indictment of the game

As someone else said...if they aren't going to bring in a video ref bring in a citation system like rugby also has.

Obviously they already do with violent conduct or racial abuse etc..with x punishment.

Have a tier below for diving, shirt pulling etc..even make it warning first and 1 game ban for a repeat. If you get 3 citations after warning in a season, 5 game ban.

That way...if it's one of those dubious ones say an uncharacteristic first timer that not everyone can agree on they've only got a warning...repeat offenders as cheats will get the actual bans.

And another thing...have all 3 officials on an equal footing decision wise..if one calls something, it carries unless the other 2 disagree. 10 second convo on radio Mike's does it.

Then maybe linesman will be braver in calling things.

They all get reviewed the same way anyway post game!

But you can argue that it's why they are the best - that sheer desire to win and be the best.

Mweh...that's like saying an athlete who cuts across a lane is only showing an extra commitment to win.

I just wince when our players do it..it's embarrassing..and I'm more embarrassed than happy that it will annoy rival supporters that we won that way..

Do I like my players showing the opposition you are there? Yes..but the recent CL match Juve showed you can do it without being illegal .

Going down under the slightest contact still allows flair players to "buy" a decision because the defender was stupid enough to go in. To me there is plenty of room for manoeuvre in the game to be both tough and tricky without resorting to outright cheating.
