<doh> you are seriously ******ed if you think this will actually work in the modern game of football. Just a few questions to show you how this would never work:

    1) who decides to appeal? The manager? The captain? Any player? Surely it'd have to be the manager as how can any player make such a decision. IF so, how do they appeal? A player running up to the ref? Impractical if the game is still going on. Asking the fourth referee? This would take time to get communicated through to the ref, meanwhile plenty could have happened on the pitch.

    2) what if, in the time between the penalty incident occurring and the ref realises there is an appeal, something vital happens... the ball is hoofed down the other end and the other team is through on goal - surely you can't stop play as you'd be preventing a goalscoring opportunity for what could potentially be a frivolous appeal - teams would start using this tactically to prevent counter attacks which would completely ruin the game. What if a tackle goes in immediately after the incident that would be a second bookable offence? Does he still get booked even if the penalty request is turned down? Does this change if the penalty is given? as surely won could argue he wouldn't have been sent off if the penalty was given in the first place.

This , along with soooo many other questions is why this would NEVER work and would ruin the game.

Before throwing around insults, let me explain to your feeble little mind how easily this could work.

The manager would be the best person to decide to make an appeal. For appeals there is an extra official that any of the managers would have to straight away tell that they are appealing a particular decision and that official would instantly tell the referee through their mic that they are appealing that decision. This would be a matter of less than five seconds. Very, very unlikely could the scenarios that you said occur. Even if it did, then the manager would have run out of time to ask for an appeal. Unless you can pinpoint me to a particular time when a penalty appeal was denied and within five seconds the other team had a clear goal scoring opportunity. Please do so if you know of such an instance.

Now what are all these other questions that you have?

Stop being so allergic to change and learn how to progress and evolve for the better. Video replays are something which would have countless of trials in order to see how best they could work in order to make the game as fair as possible.

  3. I agree with this. Who cares if there's an extra `1-2 minutes extra time, we will get the fairer outcome from the games and players will less likely cheat.

Are you serious? You can't see the problems arising here. Is there a time limit in which managers can make an appeal? How do you enforce it? IT'll take at least 5 secs for the manager to decide to appeal, and go over the the ref, and another 5 to inform the referee. Also, A LOT can happen in a game of football in 5-10 secs. One of the scenarios I gave you (a foul straight after the incident which would be a second bookable offence) could EASILY occur immediately after the incident or within 5-10 secs.

Here's a scenario for you: There's an innocuous tackle in the box, seems like a perfectly good challenge where he got the ball and another defender instantly plays a long ball over the top. Because the attacking team were pushing forward during the incident, they have few players back and that long ball quickly leads to a goal scoring chance, maybe a one on one. The manager - seeing this danger, asks the fourth official if he can appeal the tackle in the box. Even though he knows the appeal will fail, he's prevented the attack.

The logistics of it would not work, and employing yet another official?! It's just silly. Part of the reason football is so great is because it doesn't stop all the time, and part of the fun after the games is debating controversial decisions. I agree with the other guys here, video replays would be my idea of absolute hell.
