I was going to say the same. We totally lacked balance, especially when Hull had the ball, and when Davis or Romeu had the ball, our attacking midfielders were never making it easy for them to make the pass. With JWP in the side, he gives them an "out" ball. Redmond and Boufal were dreadful. Gabby had no service again. Tadic must never be allowed to take another penalty for us. I did find myself thinking about SRL, when it was awarded, and I have to say that I miss expecting a penalty to hit the back of the net. Now I just wonder how weakly he is going to hit it, and hope the keeper dives the wrong way. A ref finally sees a nailed on penalty, in our favour, and we waste it. We didn't deserve 3 points, but we all would have taken them, to make up for the defeats when we have been the better side. Going to be a blinding MOTD, tonight.
Just got in from the Sunderland- Bournemouth game. Sounds like I chose the right game to follow. Wanted a Saints win obviously but also want Hull to stay up. Need a few Northern teams to go to next season. Newcastle, Hull? Huddersfield? or Sheffield Wed? Not that confident of a Boro win now. As soon as I heard we had missed a penalty, I knew who had taken it.
Oh well. Just got back. Shrugs shoulder. Something not quite right. Think Tadic, Boufal and Redmond a bit too attacking and we lost the midfield (even with Romeu there). Great to meet up with the not606 crowd. LL happy Birthday and great to finally meet Dame Fran and Dame Helen PS: Vin, I got to kiss Helen's hand too
Well............. Nice to meet up with some forum buddies today (thanks for lift, Fats). That was the good bit. Don't know how much was us being poor and how much was down to the game plan and determination of Hull. They closed us down and deserved their one point at least. Gabbiadini couldn't do it all on his own without getting the ball from his team mates...enjoyed seeing him help out in defence as well. Has a good attitude. Puel opted to add some pace with Long and Sims and give them enough time to have an effect. It did result in some improvement though we continued to lose the ball. May not have worked, but doesn't mean it wasn't a good idea. Game to forget and move on. I suspect we will play better against Liverpool and Arsenal, but our best chance of points was today.
That was a shocking match. Stuck in 1st gear all game no drive no motivation no urgency. Desperate stuff. WHY is tadic allowed anywhere near a penalty? Are the others all worse - really? Sent from my SM-N910F using Tapatalk
One of the worst matches I've ever seen at St. Marys, and one of the worst performances from "saints fans" in living memory too. Getting to the point I don't really want to go (not because of the football, but I just think our fans are an utter embarrassment sometimes) Also, if I see Tadic lining up to take a ****ing penalty again, I'll be going on the pitch and take it away from him myself. How a player can miss so many, and STILL be a penalty-taker is beyond me.
Only Romeu and Stephens can hold their heads up and say they tried. Poor, very poor. Can't see us staying at 9th for long, except that even Palace couldn't do it, funny old game
I said the same thing. I didn't boo, but when we won the penalty, I didn't get excited either. A quick poll of those around me before he took it had two saying he will sky it, one saying it would go in and me saying the keeper would save it. I'm always right.
Only watched a stream today, wish I'd watched one made out of water instead. Dismal performance, nothing good to say and I'm sure everything about just how useless we were has already been said already by others. Onwards and...onwards I guess as I'm not very confident there's a great deal of up to come this season. I think Saints need to think very carefully this summer as we do seem to be short on quality, and they may have to spend some serious cash
Yep 5-0. Fraser with a goal kick. Long hattrick, then a fat drunk bloke from Northam scored a 40 yarder to round things off. Missed out today pal
Not seeing the funny side. We're safe, been safe since palace, but that is no excuse for not turning up. I'd have kittens back in the day when we needed results elsewhere if someone did what we did today.
Only Soares seemed to play with any credit today although Long fought hard when he came on. There is nothing really to add as , yet again, Puel was out-thought tactically by a manager deemed to be in charge of a so-called lesser team. The statistics underscore what has been a dreadful spectacle at season at St Mary's. The best performances (including this week's first half against Chelsea) have largely been away from home including the Wembley final. There had been sufficient in January and February to suggest that performances would improve. However, the recent home matches have been woeful , the performance against Man City being uninspiring enough yet today's was so inept that I think that a majority of fans have now turned against the manager. The mood in the Chapel was pretty scathing even by half time. 17 home goals in the league is unacceptable. The style of football is frequently tedious. Signings like Boufal have skill yet Puel seems incapable of harnessing his ability to the advantage of the team. I am wondering if Puel;s coaching is having a similar negative effect upon Gabbiadini. The team selections often seem baffling. JWP is the most improved player in our squad this season and I think that he has to be one of the first names on the team sheet. The substitutions in the recent matches have not worked. This trend seemed to manifest itself against Bournemouth and I am beginning to think that Puel is clueless with regard to make the right tactical change to affect a match. I am convinced that Puel's are now numbered. The board cannot have been pleased by today's performance and I wonder just how many supporters will be reconsidering renewing their season ticket after yet anther uninspiring spectacle devoid of goals. Economic factors will force the board's hand and the proposed sale to the Chinese is going to be jeopardised if we persist with a manager whose style of football is turning off the majority of fans. Puel has to go. Given the fact that next season the league will be stronger with the addition of Newcastle and Brighton, persisting with the Frenchman will mean we will end up in a relegation scrap unless we do something. I think Southampton owe him the curtesy of seeing the current season out but the board must do something swift in June and get someone in who knows what he is doing and is not so clearly out of his depth.
