Reds director of football Damien Comolli indicated on Friday that the £6million arrival of Jose Enrique from Newcastle United would be the club's last inward transfer of the summer.
Ryan Shawcross is a Liverpool transfer target (PA)
However, it seems Liverpool's owners are prepared to find the money for a new central defender after the team conceded 15 goals in six pre-season friendlies.
Stoke City's Shawcross is Dalglish's preferred option and the Reds are lining up a £10million bid, according to reports.
The Potters value the 23-year-old at around £18million and as they have a wealthy backer in the form of online betting tycoon Peter Coates, have no need to sell.

Shawcross is only 23? Sign him up! I rate him higher than Cahill or Dann, and he is a commanding CB.

No we are not. City treat players wrongly, like Adebayor, Tevez, Wright Phillips and Bellamy. There are to many unhappy faces there.

We also don't lure them in with £300k a week on wages, thus making their egos grow and play for the money without heart.

I'd take Cahill. Shawcross is a rag reject.

Shawcross is joining Man United...for £18 million more than Slur Exlax sold him to Stoke for. Now he's going to be made look extremely foolish.
Then again he did once want to pay £3 million for a player that Racist Ron released on a free, but the player joined Kenny Dalglishs' Liverpool(Peter Beardsley)
Racist Ron did so because he thought Norman Offside was a better player. Norman Offside was compared to George Best, however the only things that Offside and Best had in common was they were both from Northern Ireland and were both alcoholics.

Barcelona let Fabregas join Arsenal's academy for free, then bought him back for around £40m...
