IF Conygree wins this then what price for next years CGC? He's 50/1 on paddy power at the moment no idea if he's bigger elsewhere but seems a little insulting for a past winner when there's not exactly a mass of quality horses in the betting

I think it's the age factor that goes against him Smokey. 11 year olds just don't win CGC. Neither Denman or Kauto could do it. I could be wrong but in recent times I think only Moscow Flyer (11) and Sprinter Sacre (10) have won a championship race at Cheltenham. Based on that race at Punchy though there's certainly worse 50/1 antePost bets out there.

You're probably right but he's probably not had the amount of racing most 11 year olds have had either. It's not something i'm planning on betting on I don't do ante post betting anymore unless it's NRNB after getting burned a couple of years ago. He's also probably a bit fragile aswell so the price also probably reflects his chance of making it to the race

Wiki indicates there were plenty of 10,11 and 12 year old winners before the turn of this century. Cool Ground, Cool Dawn, Charter Party and Dessie for example. So it can be done.

Michael O'Leary had previously said Champagne Classic was a "dud" and "the worst horse we've bought"...he doesn't seem to know his arse from his elbow if that's the case! 2 wins at HQ and Punchestown in succession.

Oh and beefy, there isn't a better bumper horse in training let alone in her own yard!

Let's just say I'm very pleased with that result myself! Would have backed Samcro if he'd have ran tbh but she's some mare, terrific animal. Good to see you supporting the Irish horses ;)

Just saw a replay of the Gold Cup there, wow what a race!!! A proper race to show why jumps wipes the floor with flat pish... <runs>

Sizing John is some animal, thought my lad Djak was going to have his day in the sun, what a race him and Coneygree have put up in defeat.

    He was serious.

Nice effort by Fayonagh. Should have threw the kitchen sink at her but that would have been too easy for me <laugh>
