This. We'd need to get 50+ points with this Championship squad just to avoid the drop. Oh and Rafa will walk so we'll have someone like a Warnock in charge.
Not saying it isn't right, but where have you got that from? The only one I know of is 12 points penalty for going into administration. Most penalties are at their discretion, no?
If we end up in that situation then there are probably far worse possibilities out there - especially if this counted as a fresh start and we got his first season bounce.
Indeed. But where clubs commit serious financial irregularities leading to 'insolvency procedures' the FA can impose a 12 point ban. It works both ways.
Just had a thought. There's an even worse possible outcome. Ashley might just decide to say '****-it' with football, separate the club away from any of his other holdings and call his loan in to at least get something back. It wouldn't be the first time he had put one of his own companies into insolvency to protect his greater wealth.
Football Insolvency Rules. Generally apply to administration, but can be extended to 'serious financial irregularities that result in insolvency procedures.'
I'd rather take the hit now with another season in the Championship than get whooped and set new record lows in the Prem.
There isn't. But HMRC usually issue 'winding up' orders for unpaid tax. That is classed as insolvency processes.
But surely HMRC would prefer to actually get their money back + interest and slap the club with a whopping fine too? Ultimately they'll get more for the public purse that way.
They would. But they would also like to make an example of us since we are classed as a 'big' club. They want to prove a point - Namely that no matter who you are, you can't flout the rules. They are after Chelsea too.
I think that would be stretching the wording of the rules beyond what is reasonable. I wouldn't expect that to happen.
They've been dying to bring down a big name for years. They threw everything at Rangers but didn't get the full result they wanted. If they sniff any chance of destroying a big name they will do it. If they have any input from the government then it won't hurt their cause that Mike Ashley is involved or that the club is in an area where they won't be losing many votes because of it.
Yes, but it's the FA who would interpret that rule and dish out the punishment. I think it's just too early to speculate on any punishment since as it stands we haven't been found guilty of anything and we really don't know a lot about what we're even being accused of.
