I was going to ask if anyone had any inside information - but probably not the best terminology to be using today!
nufc.com summary: "Inevitably, this news has led to speculation over a possible points deduction and/or transfer embargo affecting NUFC if financial impropriety is proven. That cannot be ruled out, but given the complex nature of what is being investigated it would seem unlikely that anything could affect our return to the top flight." Probably right there, as this is potentially a huge investigation, and seeing as West Ham are involved as well, this opens a can of worms across the whole of English transfers, and it would be very short-sighted of HRMC just to investigate 2 clubs. Just a bit of an arse to have this hanging over us when we can potentially still win the title. Ideal scenario is that Charnley and Carr get found guilty and the rest of the club is innocent, they get sacked and everyone lives happily ever after. Not sure I see points reduction/demotion happening over this, as that's mainly for going in to admin, even West Ham managed to escape it with the whole Tevez scandal.
I'm in agreement. Plus I am of the opinion that fines will be implemented, especially if it dates back prior to Rafa being in charge, prior to our relegation and promotion. I think time frame is important here. Completely agree with the comments about only Newcastle and west ham being investigated, I reckon every club has secrets and wrong-doing, you just need to look hard enough. Also just seen that the staffing agency that provides the Sports Direct warehouse with all its staff is going into administration! Mike Ashley is sitting in a pub somewhere, tears falling, gently rocking repeating to himself "everything is fine" over and over again
Get French Football have just confirmed that Marseille's ex-board members are also a target for the tax avoidance investigations in France and it is in connection with the NUFC and West ham investigation.
Is the £5M just NUFC or is that the total avoidance? If so, ours may just be a small % of that and then could be back to personal on Charnley. I'm hoping
I've also read HMRC have 8 people inside the stadium investigating. A spokes person for Leeds United confirmed they would have taken more
I think the worst possible outcome could be to still be promoted but then have a transfer embargo. We'd lose Rafa and then have this current squad trying to avoid a record low points total in the PL
1990 all over again lads ! remember us going up instead of Swindon this is great news for Sunderland supporters hehe.
Agreed. hehe. Although I don't think even the Mackems would be lucky enough to be handed our place in the PL now. But you never know...
So I guess it scuppers our Haidara+Colback+Sammy+Riviere for Alderwiereld+Dier+Alli+Kane swap deal with Spurs then.
Give it a few months and we might be grateful of having Haidara, Colback, Sammy and Riviere still on the books!
