Income tax and NI fraud amounting to £5m according to reports. Can't see there being much of a consequence if that's the extent of it, not limited to NUFC.
Oh that's fair enough. I genuinely would be amazed at this stage if there wasn't something major in this. I can see it playing out over months...
Surely West Ham have got away with worse than that before! I was more concerned when we had our transfer dealings questioned following the reigns of Sounness and Allardyce for "irregularities", now I'm much more "what will be will be". I do hope Charnley goes to jail for something though. Just anything would be fine by me.
In my experience it depends what they take from seized materials. It could unlock a network of dark activity or they could get **** all. They don't have many powers tbh, with comms, just what they extract. That's HMRC mind, the FA might go to town (toon) on ya!
I know there's a lot of money in football but there's not a lot of money in services, I think it's a serious matter which could be stamped out with hard punishments for those who've done it. Wipe out the culture before it gets going. There should be very heavy fines eclipsing what they owe imo. Clubs should know for every pound of tax they evade it's going to cost them 3 or 4 time more when they get caught. Criminal records for the people involved as well as being kicked from being company directors.
Luke Shaw £7m? They sold Moussa ****oko for £30m and he's 10 times the player!! Their delusion knows no bounds!! Be really funny if they get a luton style points deduction and finish the season with less than 11!! Or even funnier - They get found guilty and denied promotion meaning that only 2 teams go down from the prem. West Ham also get relegated meaning only 1 team goes down - we finish above Boro!! That would be like a dream - getting a semi just thinking about it!!
Tax evasion should be serious on any level, look at the way famous individuals have been ripped into, this is cooperate companies essentially contributing to the lack of investment in the country. It should be major, all involved should be shamed and examples should be made to nip it in the bud i say.
true!! the prices mentioned are a joke! - that coupled with the fact that they think Ashley will just hand over £100m to spend!!
Surely if they have evaded taxes then this money put towards other transfers/wages it could be seen as gaining an unfair financial advantage over the other 23 teams (if Championship) or 19 teams (if PL)?
Even a transfer ban would be funny. That ****e squad would make our 15 and 19pts seem like Real Madrid. Every week a nightmare for them. Perhaps they'd poach Moyes.
I think talks of point deduction are a bit too far like unless evidence is uncovered that it had a direct effect on league positions, but a transfer embargo while it's being investigated could be possible if any of it is linked to player acquisitions at all. That includes us.
There's absolutely no 'good side' to this for Newcastle. It won't be done & dusted in a few weeks, a slap on the wrist and back to normal. This will be a very lengthy procedure and have a major impact. I'd personally be happy if the entire PL was involved and it blows it apart, but of course it won't.
The only plus for Newcastle is that West Ham are also involved and we all know the FA would never do anything too nasty to their golden club - Trevor would never allow it
I'm not sure that matters a jot mate. Financial irregularities have been previously punishable with points deductions. If it's proven then I would suggest that a points deduction would be a given. The issue is the timescale, and whether they cough when presented with the evidence by HMRC.
Tax fraud is what cost Swindon in 1990 hehe this funny though, we could still play them next season. WHU won't cop it though they are a London team, if they do we finish 3rd bottom they go down and we stop up, there is still hope lads eh ?, Watford have still got their dodgy situation to cope with as well
I'm just going off when I worked for SOCA, we did a lot of work for HMRC and they were working with a backlog of cases and were years behind so generally they will pursue lost funds and be happy if they get it back. Maybe it's changed since 2008 mind. The FA could punish them too mind, just depends what West Ham have done cos they are the FA's bum-chums.
This doesn't just seem like 'chasing funds' .... senior people are being arrested and dozens of tax officers are involved. This is bound to involve payments to agents imo.
From the Mag forum ...... "Who would have thought this could happen just two days after we achieved our dream of getting back to the Premier League and it came out about the exact same time after our players reported back to training for their first season after being promoted." The Mirror ...... "Benitez has had a good working relationship with Charnley, and change would potentially be disruptive. Many fans want to know if United could be deducted points, but with the probe being at such an early stage it is impossible to know how serious it will get. It is, however, unlikely to reach a conclusion soon enough to affect newly-promoted Newcastle taking their place in the Premier League. Less than 36 hours after winning promotion, Newcastle are in crisis management mode again. The innocent fun of Newcastle’s “France Day” seems a long time ago.
