If Arsenal were to go on and win the FA (long shot I know as Chelsea are clear favourites), but finish outside the top four, would we have had a more successful season than Sp*rs finishing 2nd with no trophy at all? Please vote now.
For us finishing 2nd with the possibility of getting our record points haul(7 more points) is good progress for us. hopefully the Arsenal board think like their fans and agree that it has been a successful season, more so than ours and one which deserves reward for the manager I.e a contract extension
Isn't it ironic that the Spuds who have decried Arsenal as a failure for the last 20 years as we have only finished above Spurs, whilst ignoring the fact that we have won numerous major trophies in that time, are now heralding Spurs as a success for finishing above Arsenal once whilst not winning any major trophies!
Trophy all day long...the joke is that people like Wenger introduced the idea of winning a trophy is not as good as a top 4 finish and it is now accepted as a fact. The carling cup is referred to as a mickey mouse cup ffs! But I am in a minority a of fans.
Unsure about Carling over top 4: possibly... But FA Cup defo over top 4. 1 League 2 EC 3 FA Cup 4 EL 5 Top 4 6 league cup
No football fan thinks that coming 2nd to 4th is better than an FA Cup. The owners think differently because there is a lot more money in Europe.
I think BOTH of the 2 english cups are better than a top 4...the Title CL and EL obviously are cos they get CL qualification and a trophy.
Higher in the table is a better finish for a bigger club than either domestic Cup . Lets take a look at what the FA and League Cups are . The big clubs play their fringe players in both till it gets toward the end , if a big club is having a bad time in League , they finally go all out to win the Cups to save some sort of face . Regardless if Arsenal win the FA Cup , Tottenham have had a superb season ... much , much better than Arsenal's fuked up one .
Trophy every time. Although Wenger hasn't done himself any favours by calling the Top 4 a trophy. Arsenal are so used to finishing in the Top 4, that maybe a season without it will shake things up, as we have become a bit complacent. If he does it, a record 7th FA cup for Wenger, will be a fantastic achievement.
Sorry Rufus but I have to disagree ... not sure the official record books keep particular track of finished top 4 in each season ...but they certainly do of the Cups and especially the FA Cup. Size of club is irrelevant for me ... the UCL has distorted things In 1973 I watched an amazing cup final where a then second division Sunderland beat the then mighty Leeds United machine ... was a fairy-tale final ... Liverpool won the league that year ... without looking it up can anybody name the clubs that finished second, third and fourth ... and why would any fcuker be bothered anyway ... but let's just say it was Man United, Man City and Arsenal (it wasn't by the way) .... would we all hark back to the wonderful season they had in 1973? ... and be arguing they had a far better season than Sunderland? ..course we wouldn't.
You've picked a bad example because 2nd, 3rd and 4th in 1974 they couldn't qualify for the Champions League as it was literally a League for the Champions.
EL has to be higher than FA Cup. More recognition in Europe means attracting better players and it gets you a CL place. FA Cup offers one thing which the EL also offers; a trophy!
...I realised that ...but the analogy still stands ... the press are now talking about whether Arsenal will now set an all time exclusive record of FACup triumphs ... you lift that prestigious trophy ...it will be a sad day in hell if they start citing statistics on who has the most top 4 finishes ...... be the equivalent of getting the 'most improved player' award at the end of year local club awards ...meaning that you were **** to start with but at least you turned up each week, paid your subs and could be counted on to help put the nets up and take them down ...
