Adrien Broner, now there's a man for ya'. Or should that be, now there's a complete ****tard for ya'? He's a man who in the past hinted at suicide and posted a picture of a hand gun. What's that to do with the man's latest escapade? Well he has just been caught up in a shooting. The former Super Featherweight, Lightweight and Welterweight World Champion, found himself in a bar argument that ended in his car being sprayed with eight bullet holes. Witness have stated that gunfire was exchanged between cars, but reports have not stated whether occupants of Broner's car fired in return.

Broner was pulled over by police who had a warrant out for his arrest on another charge, failure to appear on a public drunk matter, when they did so, they found the bullet holes. The man who calls himself The Problem, has in the past been charged on other issues. Robbery in 2007 & 2010, aggravated robbery in 2007, felonious assault in 2007, gun charges in 2007 & 2008, intimidation of a witness in 2008 and battery in 2013. He's been to trial on a number of these charges and been found not guilty.

In February of last year, Broner was involved in a betting duel in a bowling alley. He lost a huge chunk of money. As the night had drawn into the wee hours of the morning, the other man said he'd had enough and hit the door. Broner was arrested for waiting for him outside, then badly assaulting him and stealing back the cash. He also threatened him with a gun. The victim later dropped a civil suit and failed to show for Broner's trial on charges of felonious assault and aggravated assault. With the no show, the judge dropped the charges.

In cases such as these, it's all to easy to want to read between the lines, but I can't help but think that if I had a daughter, I wouldn't be too happy if she went out with him.

    Great boxer though.

A lot of bullshit is bandied about in the world of boxing, and the following might be more of the same. According to Team Sauerland, the winner of the WBC Silver Heavyweight Title fight on May 27 in Helsinki, between Dereck "Del Boy" Chisora and Robert " The Nordic Nightmare" Helenius, will get the chance to tangle with Deontay Wilder. The champ has been accused by many of taking on more than his fair share second raters, but in fairness, he's also been robbed of the chance to fight some of the better rated fighters due to no fault of his own. Still, I can't help but feel that if he had the chance to fight the winner of the Chisora - Helenius bout, or take on Anthony Joshua, he's avoid the latter.

I read about a week or so back that Hughie Fury wasn't too keen on the trip to New Zealand. At about the same time, noises were being made about wanting the bout being moved to the UK. Now all of a sudden, Fury has pulled out of the fight with an injury.

According to East Side Boxing, Parker's promoter David Higgins was livid. The fight is less than a fortnight away, and the Parker camp is in scramble mode as they search for a replacement. ESB has stated that Higgins has contacted the WBO and been informed that Parker can now make a voluntary defence of his belt as long as the fighter chosen is ranked in the top 15. ESB went on to say that Higgins opined. "I know exactly what the injury is; their moral compass has broken in half - a nasty fracture of the moral compass. It's not just Hughie, the whole camp has it."

Can an opponent be found within the two weeks?

If he's genuinely injured then fair enough but does seem a bit suspect and so close to the fight aswell

They can't just pull the plug can they? They'll produce a medical report to support it I suppose, otherwise, it's law suits at 10 paces.

Pity too, I though he could win it.

To be honest i don't know how it works, whether they have to prove it or not. I suppose obviously he has breached his contract but he won't be earning anything from it so is there any loss. Joseph will still fight and earn money. I was edging slightly towards Hughie to win aswell, but was expecting a very dull fight

In the Polo Grounds of New York City on 14 September 1923, one of the all time great Heavyweight Title bouts took place. Champion Jack Dempsey, known the world over as the Manassa Mauler, fought the Wild Bull of the Pampas, Luis Angel Firpo, in a fight ranked among the best in the sport. Boxing then wasn't as it is now, it was crude and brutal. In this bout a new rule was introduced whereby a fighter had to retire to a neutral corner after dropping his opponent. The referee seemingly forgot about it.

There is a lot of conjecture about this fight. There is a story that Dempsey may have had the film doctored. No proof has been supplied though. But the film clearly has been cut. In the first few seconds of the bout, Dempsey can be seen appearing to take a fall, but the film looks to be cut away. There seems some serious doubt about whether Dempsey beat the count when he went through the ropes. The clip says he did, but others say that the ref took several seconds before starting the count. He was also assisted in getting back into the ring which was grounds for disqualification.

The following excerpts are from Academy Award-winning director and writer John Huston recounted going to this bout with his famous father, Academy Award-winning actor Walter Houston, in his 1980 memoirs, An Open Book.

Dad and I were not at ringside but in the first tier of elevated seats, with a very good view. Firpo was a massive figure in a brown bathrobe. He stood head and shoulders above everyone in the ring--a towering, immobile shape. Dempsey came into the ring wearing a white sweater, and he was moving all the time. There was an awesome difference in the sizes of the two men. Dempsey looked like a kid compared to Firpo.

The fighters were introduced. The opening bell rang. At the very first exchange Firpo went down, and the crowd rose as one and went wild. The little man sitting next to me couldn't see and climbed up onto a narrow guard railing. Firpo was up, then he was down again. I glanced toward my neighbor. He wasn't there anymore. He had fallen to the passageway below. I paid no further attention, and neither did anyone else. He was probably dead or dying, but nobody had any time for him. That gives you an idea of the pandemonium of the moment.

With all the fanfare surrounding the Joshua v Klitschko bout, it's all too easy to overlook the appearance of one of the best fighters in the game today, who'll also be going around this weekend. One of the truly best fighters of the modern Philippine era, Donnie Nietes takes on Gomgrich Nantapech of Thailand for vacant IBF World Flyweight Title in Cebu City, Cebu. Nietes is unbeaten in 15 World Title bouts to date and if he wins against Gomgrich, he'll become a three weight champion. He has a fair chance I suppose. He's 1-25 in betting.

You know I'm a fan of Tyson but this crap is annoying me. Something very dodgy about Hughie pulling out like this and Tyson doing plenty of mouthing on Twitter yet very little sign of him actually putting on the gloves and getting back in there. For all there chat of being 'fighting men' they ain't doing much boxing...

Not to mention that they are both still under investigation for failed drug tests. Something definitely seems dodgy with all the goings on. Massive disappointment Hughie pulling out of his fight. A shame for the sport really, we had two unbeaten decent looking (albeit prospects) at heavyweight about to fight for a world title.

Whats your thoughts on this weekends big fight pal?

You know I've been reluctant to over praise AJ (just don't like the hype that's all) but I'm kind of hoping he blows him out really early, and if I was betting on it, I'd back a KO within 6 rounds. Do think he's vulnerable a bit but can't help but feel Wlad is a bust flush. Should be interesting, Joshua impressed me most when Whyte put him under the cosh a bit but he can't back so strong, I think he's got the heart and desire if it goes deep but I've a feeling it won't. Hard to know mate, was thinking last week he might lose on points but the judging at the weekend totally made me think different <laugh> Yourself?

I'm really not sure with this one. Joshua has looked very good in doing what he has done so far but he has beaten a bunch of complete bums so its hard to take them wins at face value. He's not had to really use his defence yet so we have no idea if that's going to be any good. As for Klitschko? What are we going to get? The bloke who dominated for 10 years behind his jab whilst trying to line up the big right? Or the bloke who looked frightened and baffled when in the ring with Fury. Klitschko says he has nothing to lose so will throw caution to the wind. If he does that it could make for an interesting night. However I think it'll be bad for boxing if Klitschko wins. Fury lit a spark in the heavyweight division and reignited the interest in the division so if Klitschko knocks out the supposed 'next big thing' then it won't look good. I also don't think Joshua will get much credit for the fight if he wins unless he gets chinned and gets up or shows some real heart in winning. People will write the win off has him beating a washed up old man who hasn't fought for two years.

So in conclusion because the above paragraph is me pretty much sitting on the fence, i think that i'm in agreement with you that the bet to be had is KO within the first 6. Joshua needs to try blast him out of there because if he lets Klitschko find a rhythm and establish his jab then he could be in trouble.
