Yeah I know all that. It's crazy that over here the only anti-depressent that a child can be prescribed is Prozac. That's ****ed up.
We do produce it, but in a variation of levels in different parts of the body which is why CBD makes a great all round supplement as it raises your cannabinoid levels everywhere to where they should be. Every time you're prescribed medication, you tend to start on low does while your doctor monitors and raises the dose surrounding your needs this is to set it in line with the personal capabilities of your own liver, this varies for person to person which is why we all get differant doses on meds. CBD improves the cannabinoid levels going to your liver which effects it's performance meaning any medication you're on will need to be reviewed and tweaked accordingly. It never going to rule out medication types, but it can effect dosage requirements, in most case and most meds it's going to make very little difference to your dosage, but some meds theoretically it's possible it can lead to overdosing. Eg if you have poor liver function and your prescribed meds reflect that, cbd can and probably will improve you liver function(sometimes way more than scientists are expecting) in multiple ways meaning the doesage of Meds you're on are becoming a dose which is too powerful for your needs.
A child should never be perscribed prozac in my opinion. Hopefully one day weed will wipe out the need for drugs like Prozac. Where are you in the world mate?
I'm in the UK mate. In my line of work I deal with CAMHS a lot and it always astonishes me when they dose kids up with Prozac.
I very very nearly stepped into that world, would have been working with kids learning disabilities and severe challenging behaviors. but decided to stick with adults.
This guy is the pioneer of research in the most advanced research country in the world (in this area as it stands)... Amazing documentary tbf.
I work with 16-22 year olds with various vulnerabilities. If they're under 18 all they can get is Prozac, sickening it is. Or they can sit on a Steps to Wellbeing waiting list for about 6 months with no support.
used to have lots of violent muscle spasm years ago and the weed did wonders for it -that was going to be my defence if required though i just liked smoking the herb
I knew it worked for me mate, it's the only medication which aids my mental health, what's more and most important for me, it's the only meds I've tried that doesn't clash with me, this always leads to me hitting the drink heavy for some reason. I barely drink on weed and it gets me out of bed. When It's a sativa I feel like I can go back to work again it's that good. Anyway, I digress, since I started smoking weed again I've taken a much deeper interest in what's going on on the medicine side of things. I tell you what mate, it's absolutely blown my mind what a wonder drug it's turning out to be. Beyond medication it's uses seem unlimited too, it could help solve a lot of problems in the world. It could wipe tree felling for paper for a start. Given the rate south Americans are felling rain forests to create room to farm cattle, trees need all the help they can get. Hemp can take a lot of the strain. World wide legalisation would produce enough bi-product to make a significant difference to our environment. This little plant makes me purr mate.
I worked in the private sector so funding issues are bit alien to me, I bet it's a nightmare is it? I know in regards to my own mental health the best CBT I can get is via email and it just can't address my social anxiety which is the biggest wall in getting me over the doorstep and back into graft. I've managed one match at the start of the season, i've even sacked the footy off. All they can offer me are meds and I'm not doing that **** anymore.
Put it this way - Unless they find you hanging off a bridge you'll be put on a waiting list for months. It really is a sad state of affairs. Especially considering we're talking about kids here. Don't get me wrong 'Steps to Wellbeing' and CAMHS/CMHT are great services. They simply don't have the resources to cope with the demand.
Health and social care is in an awful state init. The Tories bully **** out of it. It's turning into one hell of a costly fix to sort it out. Ran into the ground mate.
The potential on a pharmaceutical level would be worth trillions to the global economy. The UK are going to turn up to the party far too late I fear.
If folk are interested and want something broad and general to start with try the Documentary Weedettique, it explores the basic sciences, medications and the political situation over in the States which is the most important place in the world at the moment in regards to weed. It will set yourself up nicely for further reading. You can find it on Now TV/Sky or I've found some streams here. http://cmovieshd.com/tv-series/weediquette-season-1/ and here http://cmovieshd.com/tv-series/weediquette-season-2/ Worth watching just for the host's nose, it looks like he has drop of water hanging off the end but it's skin
yeah was interesting though as i had been prescribed valium when a teenager to lessen the spasm though the doctors were not impressed when i refused to take them after about a month due to side effects and the fact it stopped all the spasm and it was useful to have some imo.The advantage of the weed was the effects were more specific just lessening the spasm but leaving some and not interfering with any other of my body functions unlike the prescribed treatments. This was late 70s early 80s so obviously i never heard about any consideration of medic usage.
Love Weediquette. It's on Viceland on Sky 154 (iirc). Love Viceland's shows. Some quality shows that have taken TV to new levels imo. The host on Weediquette is sound as ****, just travels the world getting high and sharing the message!
From the 50s until recently rising levels of THC in the new strains which were being developed for recreational purposes meant not even the pharmaceutical companies even concerned the plant for it's medicinal properties either, that and a restriction in the scientific technology, a general ignorance assuming the irritation of what we now know as THC meant it wouldn't be suitable so was never really researched. Just outlawed. Prior to the 50s general cannabis strains had much lower thc levels and higher CBD levels. These are the strains that today's breeders have used in hybridising their own high CBD rich strains using modern stains to cross them with. With hybridising we'll continue to keep developing strains which are more beneficial and able to better target different ailments. So it was a mix of social attitudes and scientific capability which meant around the time you're talking about anybody claiming it be a medicine would have been branded a mad man
