Was going to say Divinyls - Touch Myself, but it turns out that was 1990.

From opposites ends of the decade there's "Funkin' for Jamaica" by Tom Browne. Absolutely brilliant, I am sure Earth Wind and FIre did some disco hits during this period, there's plenty of SKA music and early Madness "Boat on the River Nile and "Baggy Trousers." At the end of the decade the Stone Roses appeared with "Fool's Gold!. I would definitely go with Funkin' for Jamaica. There's also the whole British Jazz Funk scene that appeared with Beggar and Co with "Somebody Help me out"

Not any more selfish than a 'themed' wedding - look ridiculous as well as the cost of hiring or making an outfit you'll never wear again. Or getting married abroad ..... If the couple know their guest list well, surely they will factor in whether or not it's a reasonable request.

btw $100 !! - cheaper to hire one here and have it posted over <laugh>

They are ridiculously expensive to rent. That's usually the whole getup though, tux, trousers, waistcoat, etx, I had to rent one for a friend's wedding last year (I was in wedding party so didn't mind wearing a tux to that one... Also I didn't pay for it).

The hire costs here are for everything too, including shirt and cravat/tie. It would be worth buying a tux if you're someone who goes to or is likely to go several formal weddings. Would last forever unless you regularly go up and down in weight <laugh>

When I was at university, my mate lent me his brand new dinner suit for colours night. I was sat down talking with my then bird (deputy head of student's union and dad head of Wirral council). Some pissed up rugby player knocked a pint of cider all over me. I got up and walked round and told him he was going to pay for the dry cleaning. He laughed, but stopped when I bust his nose with my head. The good old days <laugh>

Last time your mate lent you anything as well probably <laugh>

Not heard of colours night before. What university was it? Guessing it's probably sports related based on getting my 'colours' for sport at school.

I do indeed regularly go up and down in weight. I'll notice myself getting bigger and my trousers not fitting... So I'll lose a bunch of weight and get healthy again... And then the cycle begins again a few years later. In any three year cycle I'm either super athletic looking or a right chubbo (or on the way from one to the other)

I don't go to many tuxedo weddings. They're not common at all here, other than being in a wedding party, this is the first one that requires guests to be so dressed. (That's partly why it seems so rude to expect it... It's not like they're dignitaries or anything).

Plus it's an outdoor wedding, and tuxedos in May in South Carolina is a horrible combination. Being outside midday in most likely 30 something C temperatures and very high humidity is a terrible idea.

If you're going to an 80's revival night you're beyond help, I'm afraid.

It's very common here for the groom's party to do top hat and tails or some variation involving hiring the outfits but I've never been to or seen a tuxedo wedding [except on US tv shows] it is very American <laugh> I don't get the high school prom making it's way over here either <doh>
