The General Football Thread

From EL Group G, Ajax and Celta have managed to get to the semis. Would be great if both could avoid each other in the semis and get to the final. I cannot think of too many occasions where two teams that played in the group stages against each other have played in the final. It has happened in a semi but I cannot remember the teams involved.

Need to correct my own post, over rated is not really what I wanted to say, good player, not the most talented but will get plenty of goals, but will prob need to leave utd.

The man arrested in connection with the attack on the Dortmund team bus apparently did it for money. He intended to profit from an expected fall in Dortmund shares. I am actually more horrified than if it was a terrorist attack, because of its cold, calculating nature.

That is a terrible shock for everyone concerned. I'm sure the fans at this weekend's semi-finals will do the decent thing. Unbelievable.

Really shocked and saddened by this. RIP Ugo.

 

Radio 6 news just announced the news but called him "Hugo". We expect better, BBC.

 

Who would have thought this would have happened yesterday? So he leaves home, drives to the training ground, full of smiles, greets the players and then ..... you just never know!!! You do wonder if it is something in the genetic make-up of certain individuals who although they are fit and healthy, are suddenly taken away. Who was the Bolton player who suffered a cardiac arrest and was medically dead for over an hour? I bet he is thankful for every new day after that. I don't think I can really comprend what he went through and survived. Sadly, we have a different outcome to a very similar scenario in Ugo's case.

 

I left work one day intending to have two consecutive holidays....thought I would get my BP checked. Both holidays had to be cancelled and, after an op, I never returned to work. I was lucky that something told me I wasn't feeling brilliant, so better have it checked. Moral of story...don''t let it fester...get checked.

 

Fabrice Muamba. Just over 5 years ago, there was a post on this board about it on 24th March. And yes, you're right, until these tragic events happen, sometimes there is no foreknowledge, even with people who are fit and have regular medical checks.
