Defoe was an excellent finisher but like HIAG said, outside of his goals he didn't offer much else to the team (not that it's necessarily a bad thing though). He also wasn't always first choice here, so his goal record is great.

As for the Vardy and Kane debate, I think Kane's consistency is what really separates the two.

Both are in their third full season in the Prem. Kane has hit at least 20 league goals in each season (and considering he's missed about 8 weeks of football this campaign, that's all the more impressive).
Vardy has done it once and only has 6 games to score 9 goals to achieve 20 for a second season.

I think in Vardy you have a very good striker, whereas in Kane you have an immense striker (that's still likely to improve).

Sensible post. I think I used the term consistency before. Like I said, Kane is also playing for a consistent team which helps.
As I've said, if both were 23 and had the careers ahead of them, I think both could/would become world class.
It's a real shame so much of Vardy's career was wasted in non-league and although he gets no coverage of this (as it'd make him look like a decent person which the media don't want), he has his academy to get non-league players a chance in the professional game give them a career.

I like the way you apply the concept of consistency ... didn't Kane go about 10 games at the start of last season without scoring? ... consistent in one respect during that time then <laugh> I guess you are talking about totals then? ...

Kane is a good striker, a very promising one ... but immense? ... really? ... who do you support? ...ahhhhhh .... <laugh>

he plays like a kid in the playground...added goals now and that impact element. He was becoming one of them super sub players...but since Kane got injured, he's been in Beast mode, lovely jubbly.

Yeah he did (well it was 7)... And you know what?... He still ended up the league's top scorer...

If hitting at least 20 goals in three successive seasons in the toughest league in world football doesn't make you an immense striker, then I'm not really sure what does to be honest.

I think Glenn Hoddle does a similar kind of thing John tbf...... excellent idea, there's a lot of potential out there that for one reason or another slipped through the net !

  14. PFA Team of the Year

Goalkeeper: David de Gea (Manchester United)

Defenders: Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur), David Luiz (Chelsea), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur)

Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Eden Hazard (Chelsea), N'Golo Kanté (Chelsea), Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Forwards: Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Romelu Lukaku (Everton)

Don't see Vardy among that lot. In fact, I don't see any Leicester players.

And yet, Vardy is better than Kane, according to you Foxes!
    <doh>

Can you not see why the true footy fans, with genuine footy knowledge on this site, laugh so hard at you?

It's actually astounding as to how no Prem side picked him up earlier. His record in the lower tiers was impressive so it's not as if he was a late bloomer.

In reply Terrence , its Probably because league wise, we hadn't played that well up until Claudio was unfortunately relieved of his duties.

<doh> Hardly surprising that it's dominated by Chelsea and Spurs as you're top 2. Morgan was in the team of the year ahead of Verthongan last season so by your logic that makes Wes better than Jan right?

I'd never been one for autobiographies but I read Vardy's book partly also due to the Sheffield connection (I was at the club he got arrested at just last week for their comedy night) but it was a great read. Some of the clubs that didn't take a chance like Crewe and not least Wednesday for releasing him must be kicking themselves (what must your mrs think @remembercolinlee )
