That game must have had Howard Webb dusting down his old whistle and thinking 'I've still got what it takes at this level'.

It's a world wide epidemic mate, if supporters can see it why can't the professional refs :(

I just think the pace of the game has outstripped guys who are never going to be athletic enough to keep up, turn head work it out all in that split second.

Suppose you either put more officials on the pitch like yank egg ball,

    Video ref

Or just accept a lot of games are going to now not be decided by football.

Is that Kellyanne Conway's daughter hosting Hargreaves and Owen?

Or maybe in the past we (supporters) just didn't have 40 camera angles, extreme close up and super slow mo?

    Two separate issues though.

Are we saying it's a multimillion pound business that individual results can have effect on jobs ...yes supporters paying premium amounts to be in the stands and at home....but hey, let's have games decided by a group of guys who each year will be less capable of doing their jobs?

I mean...why not go back to two guys holding a piece of string across the finish line and only count to the tenth of a second because it worked sort of ok in the past?

It's just madness. If by buying sky I can have those 40 camera angles but no the officials can't and have to guess....There's nothing remotely professional about that....

No, we are saying it's a game played and officiated by humans and that's why we love it.
Why not play the game on football manager if not, the computer is never wrong <ok>

we all have decisions we don't like against us (or for teams/players we don.t like <whistle>) but that is the nature of the game.
Have you ever given credit to a linesman that gave off-side when a goal has been scored and the video evidence has proved that when the ball was struck 30 yards away the strikers head (a scoring part of his body) was off-side as he leaned forward?
I have because to spot that takes some doing (or Marty Feldman eyes).

So maybe we should do away with officials on the pitch and have a bank of people watching video screens make decision?

Or maybe the officials should just make the decisions before the game, like that one in the League Cup Final... :emoticon-0176-smoke

That's just nonsense...again you are trying to imply that my grievance is to do with the teams playing rather than the decisions made. I'm not fond of either club on display tonight ...but it was a good game with both sides capable of winning it due to the brilliance of their players skill..if you say you love the game BECAUSE all that hard bought and trained skill can be completely nullified by an official that can't cope..that's just sad.

How does giving the refs help make the players turn into computer controlled robots...stupid analogy...Although I see where you get it from based on your managers recent comments..

Yes...I'm always crediting officials for correct decisions...but it doesn't deserve a medal mate ...since that's exactly what they are now paid a lot of money for..I don't applaud my teams players just because they can actually run and kick a ball...that's the bare minimum required.

And it's not 50 years ago when you could get into a game for tuppence and watch the football for free on tv..how much did those Munich fans pay to be there...fair enough if they just get stuffed...they can moan that their team is ****e.but UEFA took their money and then said...**** you we're giving you some Hungarian joggers to decide whether you get through.

You want to see incompetent officials...go watch pub teams with the local drunk pulled out of the pub last minute and given a whistle..

Every other big sport has embraced technology without too much interference in the "romance" of the game..

    Football will too...

To be fair, being a united fan you're not in best situation to talk about decisions going against your team <whistle>

And what about the player who is running at speed with the ball when a defender comes in from the side to tackle him, he goes down but the video proves he wasn't touched. Was it a foul or a dive, or maybe just a fact that when you are running at speed a slight distraction can make you lose your step.
This is not a rant at you, it is more a rant at expert refs who can see the right and wrong of a situation after several viewings (and having pundits point them out), I loved the days when we screamed for a foul on the terraces then said "ref said no" and accepted it. Football is a game, **** how much money is involved it's about humans in competition and controlled by other humans.

So who do you class as competent officials, Italian, German, Spanish?
Watch some other leagues, there is very little difference between them. Why, because they are on the ground in real time and human.

I'm actually all for this - I think there should be a 'video ref' in the stands who is watching the game and can see all the incidents. If he spots something, he will pass on a message to an official who is on the pitch who will then administer the punishment etc.

All of this can be done in seconds.

Football purists won't like it but it's a fairer system.
