Do they not have to repeal the Parliament Act to allow this?

Corbyn will get torn to pieces if he doesn't support this. The Lib Dems will probably support it as well. Very hard to see them getting a worse result than in 2015.

The result of the election will indicate just how divided the UK really is. I hope the Scots relect the SNP en masse, that Nothern Ireland elects pro-EU MPs from across the spectrum. It will be interesting to see the percentage of Remainers voting for pro-EU candidates in England and Wales, and will Labour's support hold up now that official UKIP party is in its death throes. Hard to see people in Sunderland voting Conservative. And let's hope Royston Smith is heaved out of the way and Labour regain Southampton Itchen. In Winchester the poulation voted Conservative but were in favour of remaining in the EU. I expect TM is expecting support for the EU to melt away as she does seem resolute in her determination to pursue Brexit all the way.

I sense our only hope is that the EU 27 really stitch May and her Government up in the next two years so she bascially has nothing to "sell" that is beneficial to the UK on exiting.

I'm not convinced May will win as large a majority as people think. I guess she'll end up in a stronger position though.

It's the 'back me or sack me' ploy in a divided Britain. Both Labour and Liberal are in no position to compete. I just hope that us Remainers stick to our principals and don't follow any herd, following a track none of us actually want.

No real dilemma for me as my local MP is Labour and opposed to Brexit. So I'm happy to support her on both counts, & London being the forward thinking tolerant place it is, I expect her to win.

The Labour Party nationally is in a bad place right now though. And as the Lib Dems are the only party united in their opposition to Brexit, it will be interesting to see if that can lead to a revival in their fortunes.

That said, an increased Tory majority, which is what we'll probably get, will mean we're all aboard the Brexit bus and on the road to nowhere. Whoopee.

Looks like Labour, Lib dems and SNP are all backing early election so tomorrow's vote looks like it will be a formality.

Yay, another couple of months with the media being filled with left and right wingers attacking and insulting each other over Brexit. Just what i wanted. Thanks May.

Surely this can only go one way. 21% lead in the polls and Theresa May has way higher popularity results too.

I think she is going to the country now because she expects the Brexit procedure to be very difficult and will likely have a negative effect on the UK economy. She is good at "bigging" things up but that is about as far as it goes with this PM. I do sense she wants to take Nicola Sturgeon head-on, in fact TM will try to destory her by her utter beligerance to anything other than a hard Brexit. She will divide the Scots by moving more Defence jobs there, as the expense of Portsmouth, which she doesn't care two hoots about as the Solent area always votes Conservative except Southampton, Eastleigh and Winchester.

Hopefully someone will lock Jeremy Corbyn in a cupboard somewhere in Islington until all this is over.

Great timing. Sturgeon's polling slipping and Labour at rock bottom. Even though polls would give her a Blair landslide she should easily get close to 400.

And then he should resign so Labour can get back to being a proper opposition party (assuming they lose - surely even the polls can't be that wrong).
