He was infinitely better than Ba in the first half

Ameobi had a great chance to send Ba through 1 v 1 on the keeper and didn't take it. Should of moved Ba further left instead of central tbh.

@ Jonnyaiston - compared to exactly how many chances that Ba could have created exactly? Ba was a waste of a shirt in the first half, fair enough at the OP though as I thought Pardew got his tactics wrong. Two up top was plain silly

I'd disagree Ba's movement was good. Shola did what he was told to do. He won the ball in the air and was strong when trying to hold up the ball. The ONLY reason Shola was preferred to Ba because both were piss poor in the 1st half overall.

Oh yes...they're ****e as a pair. It's 1 of them and Best or 1 of them and "new striker"

He never got the chance to, rarely got the ball. Should of had Ba and Shola switching roles.

Didn;t pass a late fitness test or something. I think he would have been in the squad if he was available

Shame that him and Gosling didn't play - From pre-season, Gosling looks like a better player than Barton in all honesty.

Would've rather have played Obertan/Marv/Best instead of either Ameobi/Ba in a position just before the full on Striker(Ameobi or Ba today). And then played Kadar instead of Raylor, and Gosling instead of BArton IMHO. But Pardew went with experience against a depleted Arsenal side

Pardew has an excellent history again Wenga. I'm sure he knew what he was doing.

Besides, we drew at Arsenal! Not too shabby tbh

Considerin i hate it when shola is picked i actually think he did ok today. He won pretty much every ball in the air but what i really couldnt stand was that when he did win it no one was there waiting.

Also is it me or did both ba and shola look uber slow today like extremely snail like.

I think he didn't want a completely new front line to start the season! Always nice to have a bit of familiarity. Also, I reckon it would have mentally affected Arsenal players out coming up against the same players as last time.

Bit harsh on shola, he was completely isolated for a lot of the game. Pardew got the formation wrong more than anything. Just highlights our need for a pacey striker who is willing to take people on and shoot

Quite a simple one for me yesterday, we had a pair of clowns up front. The tactics would have been fine if those two were able to control a ball, work and generally do something useful on a football field. Don't wanna be too harsh on Ba as it was his first game but he doesn't look like a footballer. I thought the same when I watched him last season. You have Cabaye, Tiote, Barton, Jonas and you're set up to play possession football. But you can't because the two up front are too useless to keep possession or move into space to receive the ball. Arsenal are a good side but were there to be hit on the break and a bit shaky after their pre season. We couldn't take advantage because we couldn't retain the ball because the front two were unable to take part. I'm not a fan of his but Best is a better option than both. Him and Obertan would have been better from the off. Gosling too. Anybody. We badly need this striker now.

We got a draw against Arsenal so that's a good thing.
