Lewis will be annoyed. He was trying to beat someones record of most poles in a row. Cant remember who but he needed at least 2 I think. Well done to Bottas and Hulk
I was expecting Ferrari to be faster too but not sure on temps. Maybe the temps had come down so Ferrari lost some speed.
the Merc front row lock-out, as predicted (I suspected Bottas could get it here.) Think Vettel has the race though, unless he Ham and Vestappen go into 1 together. struggle to understand why some on here are a surprised, they always turn up the engine to get the extra .5 in Quali.
Got to give it to Lewis, the atmosphere between him and Bottas is akin to when he was teammates with Heikki. Very chill and happy for him.
Well done to Valteri, fantastic lap to pip Lewis and the pressure told on the triple champ- thats what it should be. The annoying thing with F1 now is the quite blatant gap between Merc works and Merc customer engines. The works team clearly have an engine option to crank up the power in Q3 that no one else has. F1 needs to bring back some testing to get these power units closer converged in performance because qualy has been about the Mercedes team mates for 4 years now.
Behind, but within .5, that's what I think'll make a race. ould be wrong, could be a canter and procession, but if it's Bottas that goes off on his own will anyone be bothered if it means Seb, Lewis and the RBR boys have a battle?
Great job by both Mercs and fair play to Bottas. There were rumours from Barca that Merc were struggling on being able to use full quali mode which may explain how close Ferrar have been to date. However, they appear to have resolved their half a second loss today which is worrying. Having felt that Ferrari were favourites for this race, I have to say my optimism is fading, and the Merc power unit is starting to stretch its legs. It's just dissapointing that the customers don't get the same specification and liberty should make that a priority.
