    It's his birthday today - he's 33. That Steve Cotterill is a sly old fox - not even a rumour got out about Benji.

    He got his song sung when he was paraded before the match. And that lifted the crowd.

    Actually, Blackburn offered him a new contract. He turned it down.

    Noooooooo - you shouldn't read something that wasn't said - he was offered a new contract by Blackburn but he turned it down.

    Signing for Pompey was nothing to do with the Blackburn contract offer.

    Exactly. Blackburn offered him a new contract so saying he is "a has been that no other club wanted" was completely incorrect.

    To prove a point, perhaps you could let us know the other clubs who were after him.
    I suspect the same goes for every other player SC has signed. You do not seem to have had much competition.

    Turns out that Cotts rang Benji on Thursday night to see if fancied coming back, they finalised the deal last night (on the phone Cotts was in the car park) and he flew down this morning and trained with the team. That was a quick done-deal.

    Sorry but it doesn't work that way. You made an unsubstantiated claim that no other club wanted Benjani. Your claim was rendered invalid when I pointed out to you that Blackburn wanted to keep him but he turned them down. Nobody has claimed that he was hot property and host of clubs were lining up to sign him, Pompey fans will generally be happy with the signing because he was a great player for us first time round and treated the clubs and fan with a lot of respect and we'll hope he can be a great player again. You were the one who brought up this issue of clubs wanting or not wanting Benjani, nobody else.

    I have never seen the Portsmouth FC site work so quick - Benjani's picture is already on the squad list - he's got the number 25 shirt.
