And why would i ask for that? It doesnt go. There's a weird curry on fish loving cod eating no mark on here Carmine. You two should get together. Somewhere else.
You have never, and i repeat, never had a battered banger at home cooked by your mam or your mrs or that Philipino maid of yours. Therefore it cant go. The Lincolnshire/Cumberland/Fultons 4llb Sausages 99p go with beans, or obviously the Heinz beans with em already in the tin, granted. But not a battered banger. Does Not.
Everyone forgetting scraps? Large haddock, chips, Pattie, mushy peas, scraps, pickled onion, bread and butter and pot of tea. Plenty of salt and vinegar. I like a layer of vinegar on top of me mushy peas. Cave street obvs.
Don't chippy's sell both? ****ing Pepper on Fish & Chips and you think i'm weird? I ain't even seen a chippy with a ****ing pepper pot .. Have you Chazzy boy?
I'm genuinely perplexed by this post. Of course a battered banger goes with beans, as it does gravy and curry sauce. The deep fried delight of a banger needs moisture, the sweet bean juice compliments the crispness of the batter to enhance the texture and flavour of the dish. Obvz.
White pepper is a fine accompaniment to mushy peas. Personally, I wouldn't be having it in a fish and chip setting like. Does everyone else send the missus's to get the fish and chips. I tell our lass that it's a woman's job but she occasionally displays some resistance. I admit though that I do enjoy the people watching of a good Friday cave street queue. An interesting clientele. The other year I had a long convo with a bloke I could only describe as del boy...if he was a little bit special.
If time permits, I'll cook my own mushy peas - the mark up on chippy mushy peas can be a minor outrage and God forbid, I'd get served tinned (rare though). Taste wise, the standard shop pot can be a let down. It's a key player so needs respect. It's been discussed before, but I'd like to restate my belief that the peas should be allowed, if need be, to touch the chips/fish on plate. I still find it hard to reconcile these pretentious pots that the peas reside in (in restuarant/pub fish and chip meals). And what if you plan to eat your fish and chips on the hoof? Would your peas remain isolated from the big game in a poly cup? I doubt it. HHH is correct though. Vinegar layer on the peas with salt interwoven. Pepper is permissable on/in mushy peas - just not in a fish and chip theatre - pies, yes.
We used to stop at Johnny Haddocks at Newport on our way home after games. Their mushy pea pots had a little mint sauce at the bottom. Quite a wonderful combination.
