When I lived in Hull every Friday was fish/chips day except Good Friday when everything closed similar to Xmas Day. Mum went along with the fish theme substituting some fresh fish which dad brought in the day before. Served steamed and covered in a horrible white sauce with mash. Some years it was smoked fish. Hated Good Friday!
Well I will certainly miss my fish and chips Friday, but on a plus note tomorrow I fly to Japan so will have Sashimi on Friday instead.
We go Sullivans or Whiteheads in Hornsea. Not had much better than that. Had an absolute dream called "whale of a fish" in The Ship Inn in low newton by-the-sea. Biggest haddock I've ever seen and a plate full of chips. Christ I could have it for breakfast.
Great pub. Got its own microbrewery anarl. Lovely setting and great walks along the Northumbrian coast. Well worth a visit if you're up this way.
I've misremembered. That pub was closed so we went to the joiners arms in High Newton with the huge fish. Id live in Lindesfarne castle if I could.
I knew someone who had that. Luckily, a course of penicillin soon had them back on their feet. Good Luck.
Fish&chip kitchen on Prinny ave. Haddock, twice fried chips, Pattie, mushy peas and loads of salt&vinegar. Best in Hull
I'm currently in Orlando, so I think proper fish and chips are off the menu unfortunately. I'll try an find a sushi bar. That's close enough.
Here you go, no excuse... https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/epcot/yorkshire-county-fish-shop/?CMP=OKC-wdw_gmap_532
Well I have been eating it for 30 years in Japan and never had an issue. The fish has to be very fresh, if not then yes you can get a problem.
Typical North American fake brit stuff - 'Yorkshire County' - yeeeeah alright son. In Toronto there are 'british pubs' selling things like Spotted Hotpot, bangers and pie etc. You have to laugh. I had the 'Traditional British Roast' which was a sirloin steak covered in a pint of gravy. I didn't complain but still.
My last visit to the UK in 2011 included a week's stay in Seahouses and we twice walked to Craster and back. We passed The Ship four times without stopping in. What a pair of silly bunts! I love Northumberland and I was able to share it with my wife who had never been been there before. On our last day, we visited Holy Island and coincidentally on the same day, an Australian couple decided it would be a good idea to drive into the North Sea in their rental car. I wonder what that cost them? There's a couple of places in town that serve reasonable fish and chips but my grandson reckons the best in town are fried by "papa" which always includes OLMs batter recipe.
I think Sullivans is still closed following the flooding. Whiteheads is better in my opinion in any case. Just a nightmare parking. They do a whale sized one at the Foxhounds pub in Flixton that takes some eating. Mind you,m their small portions and kid's portions of main meals are larger than an ordinary portion in most places.
Tried Papas a few weeks ago. Not sure what all the fuss is about really. Its goodfor the price, but had better
