Didn't think that was how it worked.
The EL winner gets a CL spot no matter what or who they are, with no impact on CL league positions. So you can get 5 teams in the CL
The CL winner gets a CL spot for the next season and replaces the team in the lowest CL league position, ie 4th, if the winners finish outside the top4 (like Leicester will this season). And the 4th team would go into the EL.

Or at least this is how I thought it worked anyway. I believe these rules came into action because of our win in 2005 and Everton finishing 4th that season, however both were put into the CL qualifying as there wasn't a rule at that time. Hence the rule coming in afterwards to ensure the CL winner gets a chance to defend their title.

What Roger said. Europa league winner gets an additional champions league spot if not in top 4. Champions league winner takes 4th spot qualification if not in top 4.

The statement of Leicester and utd both winning is true, but as above, Leicester would take 4th spot anyway and utd would get an extra spot.

    This ^ is correct.

If Leicester win the CL (which is a moot point anyway) then they'd replace the side who finishes 4th

Yeah EL winners go in no matter what. But if Leicester also win the CL then 4th place won't get CL because you can only have max of 5 clubs not 6. So ideally we don't want Leicester of united to win their comps or else we are fighting for 3rd only to enter play offs rather than 3rd and 4th to play for

You said if Leicester win they take the 4th spot. Not necessarily true, they only take 4th places spot in CL if United also win the CL.

No they wouldn't. We'd just have 5 teams in CL.

Biscan is right, Leicester and United have to win.

If only Leicester win and United don't, what happens is UEFA chuck some other ****ty poor team under the bus and demote them to Europy league status

3.0.9 c) If the association is entitled to four places in the UEFA Champions League and neither titleholder qualifies for the UEFA Europa League through its domestic championship, the lowest-placed of the association’s UEFA Champions League representatives is automatically transferred to the UEFA Europa League (into the UEFA Europa League group stage and the access list will be rebalanced accordingly). In this case, the association of the titleholders is entitled to one additional place (total of five) in the UEFA Champions League and one additional place (total of four) in the UEFA Europa League.

    not according to Wiki
An exception to the usual European qualification system happened in 2005, after Liverpool won the Champions League the year before, but did not finish in a Champions League qualification place in the Premier League that season. UEFA gave special dispensation for Liverpool to enter the Champions League, giving England five qualifiers.[46] UEFA subsequently ruled that the defending champions qualify for the competition the following year regardless of their domestic league placing. However, for those leagues with four entrants in the Champions League, this meant that, if the Champions League winner fell outside of its domestic league's top four, it would qualify at the expense of the fourth-placed team in the league. Until 2015–16, no association could have more than four entrants in the Champions League.[47] In May 2012, Tottenham Hotspur finished fourth in the Premier League, two places ahead of Chelsea, but failed to qualify for the 2012–13 Champions League, after Chelsea won the 2012 Champions League Final.[48] Tottenham were demoted to the Europa League for the 2012–13 season.[48]

Nope, they changed it from last season. CL winners get a chance to defend the title but not at the expense of another team.

Only time fourth would drop out is if a team outside the top four won the CL (Leicester) AND another won the EL (Man Utd).

Possible that fourth will be excluded but extremely unlikely

    Oh no they wouldn't.

Read the article you posted. It says "until the 2015/16 season" they have changed it!!

Ignore utd winning the EL for now.

If Leics win the CL they go straight into the group stage along with the top3 (and into pot1 of seeds) 4th place team still goes into the play off round.
