To be honest, I've grown out of rap. It was all the rage a few years ago with the batty boys such as G-Unit and everyone wanting to be 50 Pence. But there's some stuff that stay with you. Check out Dance with the Devil by Immortal Technique. It harrowing. Tupac wasn't the greatest because of his style. To be honest, I don't think he even sounds particularly good. But it's the stuff he talks about when he gets serious and isn't "****ing your bitch you fat motherfucker". used to like 'old skool' rap, I remember when it was 'urban poetry' real tales unglamourised of the street like GM Flash 'The message' or 'white-lines', morality tales like "road to the riches" by Kool G rap, "say no go" by del la soul, or just good dance tunes like "it takes 2" by Rob Base and Dj easy rock rock rock rock, HI IT http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5IBRbzf3Fws rap just got boring after a while until a white guy from Detroit hit the scene who didn't seem to take himself too seriously, at first anyway.
so solid were ****ing everywhere when their debut album came out. of course they deserve to be near the top!
I'm sure I saw them pouring out of Currys in Clapham the other night. Your right, they were everywhere.
Rap music changed the world... It made loads of wee fannies think they were "gangstas", you get me blad!
obviously because the program was british, the emphasis is on things british people will be familiar with
It has just been a fad. To be honest, there are a lot of fuddy duddies on here. I was in the thick of the "gangsta" rap influx with the likes of 50 Cent and The Game about 5 odd years ago, but there just isn't that same culture anymore. There is more urban stuff from London like Wiley, Kano, Sway but for the most part it's more hiphop. The only "big" rappers out there at the moment are Eminem (justifiably so, absoutely fantastic since Relapse and Recovery) and the self proclaimed best rapper alive Lil Wayne (not so true IMO). And most people I know that were caught up in the Fiddy's of this world listen to most types of music. If you were in my car, you'd hear Tupac followed by Nickelback and then Drake.
Unfortunately a lot of people who spout on about rap/hip-hop only seem to scratch the surface. For those that say it's crap, you need to check out artists such as Madlib/MF Doom/Ghostface/Gza and the now defunct Definitive Jux catalog. When anybody mentions rap, most people think of Jay-Z/Kanye/Eminem.Dig a little deeper an you'll find lyrically skilled artists such as Percee P/Guilty Simpson/Joell Ortiz etc.Don't be blinded by what the media sells you!!
Hip hop that changed the world, featuring a group that put out 1 or 2 albums, didn't make great sales, heard of only in the UK and faded like a fart. Yeah obviously they should be included.
a great rapper not the greatest in my opinion
