A bit drastic that, but I know what you mean.

What is said in a job title and what is expected of that person are two different things
Silva is very clearly expected to suggest signings, we saw that in January
Suggesting who gets new contracts is clearly his job (sadly it will be Ehaw making the decision on those suggestions )
And anyway given the way he goes about business there is absolutely no way he'd ignore planning for next season regardless of whether he hopes to be elsewhere then

    My feeling is similar -
    A/ He keeps us up
B/ Next he shows what he can do, to our benefit.
C/ He then goes somewhere 'big'

    Only my opinion...

So what distinguishes Head Coach from Manager then? My understanding it was in relation to player contracts/purchases.

It's nothing but a job title, Marco Silva is manager of Hull City, he and he alone will decide who he wants to sign or retain (securing those deals is up to the owners, but they aren't going to tell him who to sign or keep).

So why is he referred to as Head Coach? Genuine question as I always suspected it was a title thrown at Phelan as he wasn't deemed worthy of being our manager, but Silva was given the same title.

I was going to say all this but he's got me on ignore so it would be largely pointless... Syd is making out like he quit them to come to the PL. Did he balls. He was unemployed for a while and would've taken a multitude of jobs.

Clubs find it 'trendy' to have Head Coaches now rather than Managers because it sounds continental and oo-la-la. There isn't a difference.

It means nothing, Antonio Conte is head coach at Chelsea, I'm pretty sure they think he's worthy.

Most if not all clubs that have Head Coaches also have a Director of Football. That's the entire reason behind distinguishing a Head Coach from a manager.

Of course, I was making the distinction with us as we don't actually have a DoF (apart from Ehab presumably doing the legwork).

Chelsea on the other hand DO have a DoF.

e.g. Tottenham - Pochettino is Head Coach, and they have a "Head of recruitment and analysis".

Chelsea have a first team manager (not Head Coach OLM) in Conte, and a Technical Director Michael Emenalo.

We have a head coach and no Director of Football, Chelsea have a head coach and no Director of Football, Swansea have a head coach and no Director of Football, Watford have a head coach and no Director of Football...

Chelsea do have a Director of Football.

A rose by any other name..

We have no one fulfilling that position.

In fact we don't even have a Head Scout.

There also probably countless other clubs that have chairmen / director types who dictate transfer policy that also have a 'Manager'. It doesn't mean anything they do the same job.

Would be curious to know of one as an example where there is a "Head Coach" but no other staff tasked with any of the auxiliary duties of a manager. Most clubs from a quick search have some sort of job title for a member of staff who deals with player recruitment and retention. We don't.

Was just a simple question regarding why Silva is officially our Head Coach, that's all. If no one knows, no one knows.
