Thought it was that refurbed hippy bloke who had Transvaal? Dint they say 'PSYCHO KILLER- qu'est que c'est?'
My pal and myself after the game on a Saturday used to go out to the Hotel Eden (now Willerby Manor) and usually Jarvis and Simpkin were in the Cave Bar and we used have a chat with them.
It's interesting to realise that it was all done in an age before mobile phones and the internet or even meaningful photocopiers, and some of the organisers were still at school or not long since left.
As is shown in the second edition, travel tickets available behind the south stand goal at half time, deposit must be paid. Paddle up and down the steps to find a bloke you barely recognise holding a writing pad, give him some money and he writes your name (more often a nickname) on the pad, a week later turn up at YEB find your name on the list and away we go. Magical times, thanks to those who made it happen.
Remember Humberside trying to interview Martin Fish and someone got close to the press box and kept up a constant berating of him with Fish Out chants, was later told it was John R****y of Dunswell.
The legacy that the lads who ran the double deckers re energised a decent away following for city at a time when rugby was taking over.I raise my pint to you
Yeah, you could be right although I always thought the first d/decker was at the start of 78/79 versus Tranmere. The bus broke down on the way and we arrived after KO and it really did kick off in a big way. Bloody scary at the end being bricked in the ground and then making a mad dash to the bus. City won 1-3 though.
Definately (bloody rubbish) mansfield for the first double decker, trip to tranmere was an eye opener for some, with a little incident with blackpool on the way to set the mood
