Ok 2 games in, lets not get carried away but 2 great wins. All 3 promoted clubs have 100% win records though peterboro just played the once. With the oxo money still to strengthen now or in January and the momentum we currently have who knows. oh and officially the number 1 club in Hampshire with pre-season favs Leicester, Forest and west ham showing weakneses - the pressure is already on other teams. Anyone changing their prospects for saints this year?
Getting way, way ahead of ourselves. We're still riding that wave of confidence and success from last season. Just wait until we hit a bit of bad patch and lose a couple. How we respond to that we go a long way to determining how our season will ultimately turn out. But hey, whilst we're stilll riding that wave, there's nothing wrong with enjoying it!
We were millimeters from a draw this afternoon but for a goal line clearance from Fraser Richardson and after dominating a match against Barnsley for 85 minutes (About the time of there 1st shot on target) we could have dropped two points and lost a little of that massive confidence. Big test on Tuesday for the players, but the longer this run continues the better we can drive forward and perhaps get something out of this season
Ipswich away on Tues - big test for us. Most difficult game so far that will be. I would be pleased with a point there but even a defeat will leave us with 6 points from 9 which is still a good start.
You could say that but you could also say that on another day we would have won 3 or 4-0. But you are right, what we must not do is get too down if we lose a couple in a row, but knowing Adkins he will keep us grounded now and pick us up if we lose. We just have to enjoy this season and you never know what might happen.
I think you just have to accept that in some games the superiority isn't that apparent. Maybe there is no superiority at all on some days..? Look at Brighton, last season. The number of times they were drawing, or losing by the odd goal, and yet at the end of 90 minutes, they'd sneaked a win. And yet they weren't the best team in the division - we were. It's not all about blowing away the opposition, England Test Cricket style, but sometimes it's hanging in there and making the difference. They'll be days like this throughout the season, and sometimes it won't go our way. But provided enough do we'll be up there, and in with a massive shout. One thing we don't need to do after two games is play catch up already.
Have to ride a wave once you're on it because points on the board give you the buffer for miserable away days in February. We're no one in disguise (unless it's Brazil). We are Southampton!
Let's be positive, we've been through so much its about time we big saints up a bit. Let the Championship know that we aren't lightweights and if the chance arrives we will fight for a auto/play off spot no doubt about it. It's looking good so far... as I said be positive, trust the team and managment and let's see what happens ay!
Winning and maintaining momentum is important, but think it would take a lot to drag this team's spirit down. Fans can be more fickle..we must stick with the team even during a slump in form. Very few teams ride the crest of a wave all season. This season will be decided on how we start and how we finish (remember that great run last season). Would love promotion, but would not regard a top half finish after a season of good football as a disaster. There are a lot of tough teams in this league. It may come down to a few flukey 1 nils..how lucky do we feel?
