He was going away from goal after taking a pretty bad touch so it wasn't a clear goal scoring opportunity anymore, thats why it was a yellow. I think Carragher was luckier to get away without a red after his studs first high foot challenge on Gyan, that could easily have been seen as dangerous play and been a straight red.

Charlie Nicholas must have been pissed as usual then eh!<laugh>....I think that when you watch it back, you will agree that there was little, if any contact made...

4 yellow cards for each team seems a little high. I told you that Dowd just gives a freekick for everything cos he can't keep up with play.

Steve Bruce: "I think he made the right decision."

If your own manager is admitting it was a penalty, then it must have been a red card if he only had the keeper to beat?

Never mind, 37 more wins and we'll end up with 112 points. More than enough to bring the title back to Anfield ;)

Get a grip mate everyone else knows it was clearly a penalty, and you got lucky there was no red. Be glad of the slice of luck and the good second half performance!

Lots of Liverpool bias on the first half.
No way were we over run, the goal edged it in Liverpools favour (Muppet Richardson's gift to you.)
Too many lump balls again from Sunderland, did Bruce think Jones was still here?

Second half Sunderland were the much better team, Suarrez was going down quicker than a five bob whore.
Downing as usual had his 5 minutes of looking world class, then returned to being a bystander.
Dowd had a nightmare booking Sunderland players for nothing and allowing the likes of Adam and Flannagan numerous deliberate fouls.
Larsson bargain of the season so far. Henderson 20 million, Larsson free. :p

Brown just edged MOTM for me, he made some very telling contributions all game.

I see some of my fellow Mackem's are still trying to defend Richardson.
He was ****e defending, ****e going forward, ****e at passing and our attacking play was breaking down every time he was involved. One wild shot at goal and apart from that he was barely mediocre. :p

Though I predicted a score draw, am I the only Mackem disappointed not to have taken 3 points after that excellent second half?

Fact of the day: Today's draw means Liverpool have dropped the same amount of home points after one game as United did for the whole of last season.

Did you watch it on Setanta sports? They showed the thing from behind the goal and he didnt go away from the goal at all, he shifted the ball sideways so he could score in an open goal, had he not been brought down he'd gone round the goalie enough to tap it into an empty net. It was a goalscoring opportunity, therefore it was a red card.

you will see it on motd (hahahh) it wasnt a red card, richardson did make contact but very minamal, and suarez was already arms out streched screaming in agony buy the time they was contact, plus he was going well wide of goal so def no red!!

carragher on the other hand def should have seen red schocking tackle, apart from that it was a cany first half for liverpool and a cany second half for sunderland deserved point for me!!!!!

Don't agree, you're thinking back on it with rose tinted glasses.

First half we ran riot, many people said so whilst it was going on.

Second half we were equal; and I think we were unfortunate to not win it 2-1.

Haven't seen the incident because I tuned in late, but contact of any sort in the box (whether it's just a nudge or not) is seen as a penalty these days. With him begin last man it is a red card in the rule books, regardless of the severity of the tackle. Would have been very harsh, but not unwarranted.

Going wide of the goal? Remember where he scored from against you guys last season. Was he any wider than that? If the answer is no, I think you can all then admit it was probably a goal scoring opportunity.

Well played Liverpool in the first half hour, could of been 3 - 0 easily

Sunderland came back strongly in the second half and deserved the equaliser. Great goal from Larsson and a goal from midfield which we never looked like getting last season

Wes Brown was excellent against Carroll, Suarez and Kuyt

Overall very happy with a point at Liverpool who have the squad to challenge for top 4 this season imo

yes but a dive ( and thats what he did ) is also seen to be an offence and he should have been booked
