OK completely lost. If you hit your wife with a cricket bat and pour bleach down her throat, how does your job stop you from going to jail?

    WTF.?
Do we know the whole story here.? His wife didn't make him walk up to the attic, in front of a loaded shotgun, every bedtime, and hang him by his genitals all night, thereby giving him some sort of revenge motive.?

If all the facts are known then the British justice system has returned to some ancient era when women gave up everything to their husbands when they were married.

Death of a Salesman is currently on one northamtpon.... I meant to book that.

I'm a little confused. Does anyone know if he was about to be in this play now, before he sadly passed?

That Judge is so relieved the horrible sod got caught lying about the cricket contract as he'd really buggered up by not sending him to prison. To suggest being her being 'well educated' somehow modifies his punishment for such actions is a crime in itself. Feels like 1969 and m'lud having those popular beat groups explained to him.

Key words of wisdom there = practice and equipment. I do attempt the odd phone or tablet repair but only when there's nothing to lose, battery replacement mainly. I do lack a decent iron for fine work though, must look at getting one.

My current task is to attempt a full service of the Guzzi starting Tuesday. The last service cost me £550 and that was just a service with nothing apart from plugs/filters/oil being required. Bugger that, they didn't (imo) even do a proper job. Without a centre stand it'll be a bit awkward but I've a rear paddock stand and a surly teenage boy there to help, what could go wrong? Transmission oil is ruddy expensive though.

I went into a cake shop, and asked how much the cakes were. The bloke said, "They're all £1 except that one, which is £2. That's Madeira Cake".

Just look on ebay. Some great ones there. They'll also do nibs, so if you have an iron, and know what model it is, you can buy a tiny nib for it. But the whole thing can be bought for less than a tenner or as much as a hundred. It could be good to help maintain the Guzzi wiring in years to come.! Enjoy the service.

Forgot to mention. Rare for a motorcycle to have separate transmission oil. Is that for the shaft drive as well.?

It's only been since owning my VFR that it has finally struck me that motorcycles generally use the same oil in their gearboxes as they do the engines and what that means for the many different requirements over an engine only oil, or a gearbox only oil. I choose motorcycle oils very carefully these days. I suppose you could use EP80 or 90 for the transmission.?

Yep, these old tractors use engine, gearbox AND transmission (bevel box) oil. SAE 85-140w is not cheap, you only need around 100ml for the drive but of course they sell it by the litre. Gearbox takes regular ep90, engine is 10-60w. Because these engines run really (no really) hot I'm not keen to skimp on the oils. Should have enough now for the next nine years though.

Blimey, three oils.! My first thought is always 'oil seals', and then I try thinking of something else very quickly.
Proper winter bike with those flying V cylinders keeping your legs warm and dry. ;)

Re engine oil, I did 150,000 miles in two years on a Yamaha FJ1200 using Halfords £2.99 20/50 junk. Changed oil (not filter) every Friday (1,500 miles) in about three minutes. Didn't change the filter in 150,000 miles, either.

You sir seem to have somehow grabbed my share of luck, and bravery in this world.

That said my Rotax engined Jawa is pretty much surviving on 20/50 supermarket sludge quite happily.

My uncle was a mechanic and from the time I was teething he told me to use any oil I wanted as long as I never let it get dirty. In 150,000 miles I never had to adjust the valves (which was handy as they were bucket and shim) or, now I think about it, do ANY maintenance on the engine bar balancing the carburettors once every three or four months.

My Dad, who used to run my grandad's Sunbeam on paraffin, and who later in his life delivered telegrams on a BSA Bantam, would argue that you never had to worry about the oil in a British bike getting dirty, as it didn't stay inside the engine long enough.
